WD-40 is a solvent. It can be a bit too strong for sensitive electronics, such as how the OP used it.

Next time, consider a made-for-purpose precision cleaner. While it may not resurrect a wonky fob, etc., when used in moderation it will otherwise be safe for use on such items.
Main ingredient in WD-40 is fish oil. Also, Water is a solvent too, the most universal.

I had a similar issue. It worked for a while - then died - I sprayed with electrical contact cleaner- no go. Going to see about warranty…
Your 2 fob's on your 23 are covered under warranty...

When asked if you got the fob wet, do say no. Again say no, or your replacement will absolutely not be covered under warranty

They will check your JL with your other working fob... see that, that fob works and then they just have their parts guys order you a new fob with cut key. Yes, they will have to program that new fob to your JL when they get it.

Again, The Service Dept. will ask about your getting it wet and that is it.. Remember say NO... and they will just replace it..

Service tell parts to order a new fob and they give your damaged fob to the parts dept. because occasionally, (not often) Stellantis will ask that the problematic fob be returned to Stellantis. Not very often does a problematic fob get sent in...

Hint... After they tell you that the parts dept was/is ordering a new fob, go to the parts dept. and ask to speak to the Parts Manager. Ask him, to PLEASE..... if he does not mind.... If Stellantis does not ask for the damaged fob back...... that he please give it back to you.... Tell him you would like the cut key and RFID chip out of it at the least.

I can tell you that many Parts Manager's will say ok.... and say "give me a few days and check back with me.. ...if Stellantis does not want the damaged fob I will gladly give it to you."

What I am saying I have experienced first hand and probably 5 others I told this hint to got back the damaged fob..

YES, you really want to get that cut key back and the RFID chip. You can use both for say a Threedom waterproof key holder..... or just keep the the key on your key ring... or keep the RFID chip for use in starting the JL should the occasion arise..

Remember... if you don't ask you don't get... the most the Parts Manager can say is no.

Hmmm, I just bought this (used) about 6 months ago and got a 5 yr/50,000 mi 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty with it. I wonder if they will cover this.....? Doubt it, but I'll call tomorrow.
Think like a Dealer..., Don’t say you washed it.

Well, I called the Warranty Company that I bought with the Jeep (Assurant)...the kid on the phone said, yes it looked like it was covered...and sent me to the web link to file the claim. Where it says that Key Fobs are not covered.

So I call my local dealer and they want $340ish for a new factory key, cut and coded. I asked if they would cut and code a key if I bought it myself and he said yes, for $105.

So are there any good aftermarket fobs that are recommended? I remember seeing someone on here a while ago.....
TIA

So I had to order a new fob from the dealer, it was about $240. I went to pick it up and after it didn't work they said, yeah, we need to program it, and then tried to charge me $170 and wait an hour. Two questions. 1. can someone other than a Jeep dealer program the key? 2. does the blade need to be cut? It has a cut but it definitely doesn't match my working key.

I walked out with steam coming out of my ears. Not once did service or parts mention an additional charge to program the key and the total cost is ridiculous. The Jeep dealers in New Orleans are absolutely terrible on every level.

You can take the old key out and put it in the new FOB but it still has to be programmed. You do realize that the Fob has a NFC in it that can be used to start the Jeep. But you can’t use the Auto Unlock feature only the metal key.

I actually found that thread earlier this morning and swapped out the blade key from old to new fob. I tried to swap the RFID chip, which I believe would have been the solution to avoid paying my awful dealer to have the new one programmed, but I couldn't get the chip out of either fob. I probably don't have quite the right tools, or patience, and didn't want to risk breaking either chip. I'm now turned around on whether it's possible to program the new fob on my own. It seems that if you want the factory features of the fob you need a dealer assist, correct? FWIW, I have a manual Sport S so no remote start and no proximity/auto-unlock entry without pushing the button on the fob.
