Android Auto issues

When using Android Auto streaming from Amazon or Radio Paradise, sometimes the 8.4 head unit refuses to play or when it does, the volume stops controlling the output even when shifting back to Sirius or FM. I have to turn the unit off and back on to make the volume knob respond again. Is this an issue with Android Auto or is my head unit taking a crap?
