I've ordered a "real" trail cover and am just waiting for it to arrive. Meanwhile I have the top off and we're in that period where we get 30 minute summertime showers almost every evening so I needed something to keep thing dry until the cover arrives.
I've had this fairly big tarp from Kelty (Kelty Noah 12) for camping purposes. It's made from a ripstop material and is seam sealed and I've never had it wet out in a storm and thought I'd try throwing it over the Jeep as a temporary solution. The darn thing works/fits better than I was expecting. Threw some elastic cordage on the tie-outs and used some guy line on the middle. Last I used some elastic cordage to attach it to the spare on the back and a bungee under the spare.
The thing has been taught enough that water hasn't pooled up (granted I am running he bimini top as well so I'm sure that has a lot to do with supporting the tarp and keeping things from pooling up). It comes with it's own bag and folds up easily.
Heck, for only $75 it's a right decent last second, summer time cover.
