I had a 2016 Sierra AT-X. I drove it back and forth from Chicago to Las Vegas and Idaho over a dozen times when I lived out that way in 2018. One of the best ON-road trucks I've driven. Off road, not so much. I think GMC just threw parts at it to make it into a cosmetically "off-road" rig.

Hopefully they've made improvements so you can enjoy both worlds, unless you plan to make it a pavement princess ?
Ya, throwing parts at an otherwise incapable 4-wheel drive vehicle is ALWAYS the route to making them more capable.

The main differences between the 2016s and the new AT4X are the engine, transmission, lift, suspension, locker, wheels and tires, and under armor. Other than that, they’re pretty similar — except the AEV edition, which get a bit more armor, bumpers, and some stitching nobody cares about.

As they say, it’s better than the alternative. :like:
In no hurry to get there, but looking forward to it. 25 years in construction is starting to take its toll. Of course that could be that I'm on the road, running a swing shift 7x12s at a power plant and that's a lot more draining at 45 than it was at 25?

Everything is harder at 45 than 25. I wish I could tell you it gets better after that… Doing all of those boring fitness and lifestyle things slows the bus, I think, but nothing stops it.

Absolutely. In the gym, trying to eat right. If I'm going to put 40 years in this trade I want at least 2/3rds of that in good, mobile, enjoyable, retired years.

Well, the time has come for me to say goodbye. I traded my Jeep over the weekend, and still have some mild, lingering regret. I have to say this forum has been great during the time I had my Jeep. I saved so much money on service and installation related costs from things I learned here. And there were so many members here always willing to offer advice and direction. I'll miss you guys.

And now, a retrospective...

Here she is the day I got her, 18 miles on the clock:

And here she is on our last day, 47k miles later:

And here’s the newest family member:

Its farewell, not goodbye. Trust me, you will be back. We are all Jeep masochist here. It may be with a new Jeep, or even a CJ, YJ, or TJ as a weekend warrior hobby jeep… but you will be back. That deep primal craving to drive a vehicle that in theory can take you anywhere will return. Until then, good luck and enjoy your beautiful and much smoother driving truck!

Actually, how many have come back lately? All I can think of is @aldo98229, and he got a Gladiator.

These damn things have risen dramatically in price in the last few short years. Then there is the inflation issue in the broader economy issue that is making people choose more long term practical vehicles to go into debt on.
