Mine is fine and feels great I've learned to shift in a way that it almost never happens. I'm more convinced than ever that it is normal. Coming up on 10k miles. Big trip to Moab next week, so I'm going to really put it through its paces.

I'm experiencing this same issue with my 2018 JLU. I've got an appointment with the service department for next Tuesday. I'll report back with what I find.

No manual I've ever driven has made this noise before. It's reproducible by shifting at relatively higher RPMS by giving a little gas as you ease off the clutch. Definitely not a syncro issue as the transmission is already in gear before the sound occurs.

Please keep me informed on how this works out for you. I have the same sound which can not be normal when upshifting. The service dept. I visited Had only another rough engagement Jeep to compare it to. There has been no attempt to conduct any investigative inspection inside to see what the problem is. This is my 4th Jeep, with a manual so I am not accepting that this is a “Jeep Thing”.
If you get any traction with your service department for a fix or resolution please post what the findings are or how they denied the repair.

I definitely have the same issue, 99% of the time it is when I shift from 2nd to 3rd. Like most everyone was saying, I have learned to adjust my shifts to avoid the noise, but to me it is definitely a little off.

I used to have a problem in my old CTS-V where the synchros would not fully line-up, mesh, retract, whatever (clearly not a mechanic haha) on the 1-4 bypass and it sounded just like what this noise is. So, could it possibly be something with the synchros is not fully correct on that particular gear shift?

Might be totally off, but either way it is a little annoying. I was not going to take it in, but if someone can determine what is going on and I could share that with a dealer I might. I am little worried the problem might get worse after they "fix it"

Hi all,

I’ve had my 6spd Sahara JL for almost 1000 miles and I truly am I in love with it. Could other manual owners take a listen and let me know if it’s back to service I need to go.

I am getting a clutch or tranny related rattle or grind on the 1 to 2 or more commonly 2 to 3 shift right around 3,000 to 4000 rpm letting the clutch up. If I slowly let the the clutch up it seems to help or shift higher or lower than the rpm range that produces the noise.

Caught it on video so other manual owners please help and take a listen.

Nearly 7k miles on mine and it does not do this. Also taught my 16yr old how to drive it, and it doesn’t happen when he’s driving, either.

Mine’s a 2dr, FWIW.

We'll see if a TSB comes of it. In the mean time, I'm not sweating it. 12k including 4 brutal days in Moab and it performs perfectly. The clutch was perfect in the rocks. Couldn't have felt better.

I still hear it on fast upshifts, again, if I'm not shifting smoothly, but I've had 7 or 8 manual transmissions in my life and every single one of them had at least one noise that was part of the deal. We shall see. Until someone finds an issue or a TSB comes out, I'm going to keep enjoying it because I've developed a clutching/throttle habbit that avoids it. Btw I never heard or felt anything in hundreds of miles of hard off-roading.

My JLUR does the same thing if I am accelerating quickly and accidentally give it a little to much gas while releasing the clutch. Never had a manual do that before but like others have said, I can avoid it 99% of the time by watching my right foot.

On a side note is anyone else Jeep super jerky in 1st and 2nd gear when cold? Like riding a horse bareback through rock quarry jerky? Mine only does this when the car isnt fully up to temp

I hear the same noise in my Sahara when I think I'm letting the clutch out too slowly between gears. I chalked it up to not being used to the tranny yet; approaching 2000 miles, mostly highway driving.

I have the same noise as well and only under the specific circumstances that the OP mentioned. I have a feeling it is just a normal quirk but for those pursuing a fix, please keep us posted!

Cheers.

So, first weekend I had my new Jeep Rubicon JLU I take the top and doors off and notice this horrible sound as my husband is driving. I immediately jump his shit and ask "has it really been that long since you drove a stick?!" Then it keeps happening, and happens to me too.So I call the dealer, take it in, they decide they are going to replace the clutch. That doesn't work. They then call Chrysler and decide to replace the transmission, 2 weeks later and that didn't work either. They have had my Jeep longer than I have!! They are flying in an engineer from Chrysler on Monday to take a look and say they may be replacing my Jeep... I will keep y'all posted!!

Has anybody have any updates regarding clutch/transmission chatter when shifting and accelerating?

Thank you. I think I may need to find a different dealership to get my work done.

Any updates from Rednik or anyone else who took theirs in for repair? I'd love to hear what the flown-in engineer from Chrysler had to say.

Ya know, mine has a little scraping sound as well from 2nd to 3rd. I have found that not hitting the gas during the shift nullifies the issue.

I’m going to hold off bringing it to the dealer just yet and see if I can get it to both do it every time and not do it every time. It is a little weird.

Trailhawk603, thanks for posting the video my 2019 2d sport makes the same exact sound with under 400 miles on it. I've read all kinds of things, from normal, to operator error, to less gas, to all manuals have a quirk, to new clutches and trannys installed. Seems as of this moment there is no consensus on the fix. Has Trailhawk603 or Rednik found an actual fix?
