4x4 actuator?

Sorry if this sounds dumb. Whats the deal with 4x4 actuator thats on the front axle? Ive had JKs and this is my first JL so this is new to me.

Called a FAD - front axle disconnect. This engages the axle only when in 4 wheel drive. Supposedly used to increase fuel mileage. One nice thing is it keeps the front drive shaft from spinning in two wheel drive. This means you can run more caster without tearing up the drive shaft on road. Negatives are It’s an apparent weak spot.

So that explains why it takes a second or two to show on the instrument panel from shifting from 2H to 4H and so on.
