Hi All,

I just recently took my 2024 MT JLU Sport S to a shop for some significant modifications. I had them do an AEV 2.5” DualSport lift matched with some 35” BFG KO2 A/T tires. In addition, I wanted to upgrade from 3.45 gears to 4.88 since I rarely saw 5th and 6th gear on stock tires/lift.

I’ve used this shop for tires and regear in the past on my other jeeps and had no problem.

But apparently on the new 2024 models the electronics don’t like the regear and don’t accept the Tazer override.

This forced my shop to take it to a jeep dealer and have them reprogram based on the rubicons 4.88 gear option.

Just some food for thought if you plan on doing something with your 2024+ wrangler.

I assume Tazer is looking into this issue as I write this post but it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes before they update to bypass that error.

Let us know what you think of the 4.88/35” combo - I went 4.56/33” and I’m constantly second-guessing whether it’s too short and I should get 35” (re-gearing again would be a lot more expensive 😅)

gotta say from my experience 4.88 is fantastic with 35s etorque 3.6

I have the factory 4.88's.

Personally I think if you dont plan on going bigger than 35's, 4.56 is the way to go. You burn less fuel.

Piggybacking on this, I'm planning on regearing to 4.56 and don't have any plans as of now to fit larger than 33s. I figured it'll be on the edge of feeling too short but I'm willing to give it a go!

One shop that quoted me mentioned the ongoing issues with reprogramming for the new gear ratio with the manual. I recently fit an ACT clutch so they said it shouldn't be an issue, but if you've had the most recent recall completed it may be.

So far, it’s perfect. I rarely used 5th and 6th gear on the highway and I’m cruising at 75 mph in 6th. Might burn more fuel but I think it has more power than 4.56.

I have the most recent recall on my Jeep and have no problems with 4.56 gearing. I didn’t even need to reprogram. I used JSCAN to set the ratio after regearing and performed the relearn TSB.

I had 4.88 gears installed on my 2024 Rubicon X last May and had no problems programming the new gears with a Tazer.

Running 35's on 2020 Unlimited Sport, V6 auto. Regeared to 4.88. Runs strong. Mileage between 14-16 mpg. Contact Tazer to see if there's an issue on the 2024 models

The 2024 and up come with the recall already completed. Hence why the op had issues and why if you read the mega thread on this form about it you'll see that if you're going to do a regear you probably should not have the recall applied to your Jeep. Some people get lucky and it's fine and some others it's not so great.

When I bought my Jeep I made sure the recall was open and not completed for this exact reason.

The clutch you have doesn't matter it's the new software they install with the recall clutch repair that's the problem.

Interesting. Maybe it’s because you have a rubicon and 4.88 gears are available from the manufacturer for them. The sport only allows 3.45 so I’m guessing they had to reprogram mine like the rubicon.

Yeah that is exactly what the shop told me. I just didn't do a great job writing it out in my response 😄 Either way, I haven't had the most recent recall done. As soon as I figure out why my ACT is creaking so much I'm going ti do the regear and use JScan to reprogram.

im having issues with mine. but im not sure if that's my problem. I have a 2dr 2024 rubicon. a shop re-geared to 4:88 revolution gears..... no issue with the programing, but even after a relearn..... I get a pop noise when decelerating and it gets to 4th gear it pops, right before lurching me forward.

could there be a programing issue even though the it shows the correct gear ratio?

I run my 23 Wrangler 2 Dr Rubi with 35s and the factory 4.10s and I just don't see a problem with this setup on the trail. I thought about going to 4.56s but that wouldn't be a significant change so I just didn't worry about it. There is a power train formula that the engineers use and the 4.88s were to short/low and out of the range for my power train with the 35s.

What was the final outcome of this? I have a 2022 Sahara that was just regear to 4.56, got the lighting bolt, limp mode, gear sensor code and hot clutch warning. Jeep said they can’t figure it out. I asked them to just load their 4.56 options, such as the high tide comes with. They said there is not way to input gear ratio into ecu. I find this to be crazy. I’ll be headed to Jeep tomorrow to speak with someone in person. I’ll try JScan, maybe that will stick. I have called hemifast about reflating the original management back. Had the recall done last year. Didn’t know it included new management flash. Thought it was just a new better clutch
