Tried searching but found a lot of conflicting answers, I'm going with 315X70X17 BFG KO2's, will the spare fit on the stock mount (I have the MOPAR reinforced tailgate)? Heard someone removed the plastic insert on the bumper and aired down the tire to fit ??

My 35 fit the stock mount with the Mopar steel bumper.

Same, 315/70r17 with mopar reinforced carrier and steep bumper fits. Did replace the rubber bumpers to account for different wheel offset.

I changed wheels along with the tires which had a different offset.

I have 315/70 Nitto's (almost the same exact dimensions as their 35x12.50's) on 17x9's with a -12 offset on the way, and was curious if you think I'll need the different rubber bumpers as well? And if so where did you get them? TIA, -Rob

EDIT: They are Nitto Trail Grappler MT's if that makes a difference

Hey Rob,
The tire size dictates whether or not it will fit above your stock bumper. The BFG KO2 in that size 34.4” tall and pretty much rests on the bumper. Personally I’m ok with that because I feel like it reduces the stress on the tailgate.

The wheel backspacing is what determines the distance between the sidewall on the spare and the tailgate. I can’t find what the factory wheel backspace is but for me there was a gap so I needed longer bumpers that I could then trim to fit. I got these but in red:

Thanks for the informative reply Brad, and thanks for the link! I just checked Nitto's website again to refresh my memory, and their claimed diameter for the 315/70 r17 MT is 34.6", so I'm hoping that despite the small, 2/10ths of an inch difference from from the KO2's that it will still rest on the bumper on mine as well, and not be an issue when closing the tailgate. From what I've found poking around, the factory 392 wheel backspacing is about 6 to 6.1 inches, and I know my -12 offset gives my new 17x9's about 4.5", so I'm guessing that means I'll have to make up for that extra 1.5 inches as well. Is that similar to how big the gap on yours was? By the way, it looks like the extended bumpers in the link come in sets of 2, do you by chance remember how many I'm going to need? (sorry to ask that, but I won't be near my Jeep till later tonight or I would just check it myself, and I'd love to order them sooner than that so they arrive by Saturday, the day my wheels and tires are scheduled to arrive.)

Hey you bet, happy to help.
I’m almost certain mine are 34.6” aired up, hopefully Nitto took that into account when they provided that number. I think the gap I had to closer to 1/2” and when I put the new bumpers in I had to shorten them. I drove around for about a week though with that gap there not knowing any better. Then I came across this thread:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/tailgate-bumpstops.5667/#post-118169

if your gap is as large as you’re saying the bumper I linked to may not be long enough. You may need to try one of the methods they discuss.
