I would suggest the 4.88 from the factory and call it good. I didn't listen to everyone on here saying order with the 4.88 and I regret it all the time. I was planning on it and on the way to the dealer I started to waffle, and then when we got to the check box I declined. Later that evening I decided I should have but my order confirmed the next morning so there was no changing it.

Hello all, I have a 2024 Rubicon X MT 2 door on order. I plan on upgrading to 35" tires but will never go any bigger. Very limited off road use. Should I stay with the 4:10 gears or change to 4:88 ?

No, better than 35" with 4:88.
If you are asking about my opinion as it relates to my own experience....

To be clear, I am certain that 4.88s would be an excellent choice for 35s. My comment was basically tongue in cheek "don't listen to anyone who suggests 4.56s or less (i.e. <4.88s)". By most accounts, 4.88s are probably the most "well rounded" performance ratio for 35s. All I am saying is that even though 5.13s are a big jump, people shouldn't be worried that they are inherently too deep. I have read many posts in this forum over the years about people wishing they had regeared to even shorter gears but rarely have I seen posts with remorse for going "too deep".

Also, a move from 4.10s to 4.56s is not going to be that big of a change, and you have to ask if small RPM shift is worth a regear cost of $2K-$3K.

Why I am a huge fan with my 5.13s: My own preferences here... I didn't buy my Jeep to go fast and prefer to drive low and slow. In first gear in 4 low I can idle along so slowly that I find it easy to modulate speed with only the gas pedal (goldilocks speed zone requiring little to no clutch and little to no brake). Reverse is great. On the highway, the thing just cruises along in 6th gear (I rarely, if ever, drive >70mph). For those who spend a lot of time on highway moving >70 while on 35s, you will probably want 4.88s. Lastly, I plan to go to 37s and I expect 5.13s to be the best ratio for that tire. (33:4.56 ~ 35:4.88 ~ 37:5.13). Again though, 5.13s are, in my opinion, a great choice to consider for 35s depending on how one drives.

I think you are misspelling Elven, the gears made of mithril. I have no plans to get the Mt Doom Badge. Nor the cake to buy them.
But what if you have to take the Hobbits to Isengard? I would avoid Caradhras but Moria might be a doable badge.

The ONE RING gear to rule them all? ha

Full Disclosure - the 4.0 in my '06 LJ is no longer that, it's a 4.6 Stroker. That said, even stock the driving characteristics of the inline 6 are way different than the characteristics of the V6. Maybe on paper the two engines are similar, but the *feel* of the JL at low RPM (in high range) is lackluster, and needs lower gears to compensate. Or maybe it's me?
It's more due to the weight difference of the 2 vehicles. I loved the 4.0 but it would be a joke in these heavy pig JLs.
