Sorry if its been covered before.. im new to this jeep never got the tow package. But I now want to buy a fishing boat 12-16' and I'm realizing I need to tow this thing if I got one... I checked for a tow hitch and nothing there.. my willys is bone stock anyone recommend any kits to buy? I'm not good with wirings, so should I take it to a shop instead so they can handle wirings? is it straight forward wiring? I think a dealership install would be an arm and a leg... can anyone chime in with their own experience please I'm aware capacity is 3500 lbs as well.. will an fishing boat be okay ? Thanks

Installing the tow-hitch is pretty easy and something you should be able to do in less than 30 minutes, unfortunately connecting the factory wiring is a PIA. The wiring has to go from the battery to the rear of the Jeep. The factory wiring goes through the cabin and requires removing many panels, carpet, etc. I have seen some install on the bottom of the jeep with tie-wraps. Sounds like you will be doing frequent towing, if so bite the bullet and pay a shop to install..... MOPAR parts has the wiring loom and hitch for sale...

You can find all the part numbers on Quadratec and then shop around, that's what I do. For a hitch I like the Draw Tite rated for 4500, tongue 600, and it's weight distribution compatible. For wiring you can go a Curt 4 way pretty cheap or the Mopar kit that has 4 and 7 way. Install is not hard but it takes an afternoon. I removed a couple plastic covers in the wheel wells to get to the tail lights and the battery, it's honestly plug and play with only 2 wires for ground and battery if you don't need a brake controller.

Take a look at the quadratec kit. The wiring was still a PIA, but doesn't go through the cab.
