You can tie off the front on the front tow hooks and then same for the rear. I’ve never had a problem however just synching the ratchet straps across the top (x2 front cross bar and back cross bar) and not tying down the front or rear.
Then again I have an inexpensive fairly indestructible Coleman Scanoe and not some $2-3k Kevlar kayak :)
mom moving a $500 kayak. I’m more worried about damaging the car and making sure nothing falls on the freeway lol. Whats the top speed you went with that set up? Any pics?

I use rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply, they work well, especially for poker night and working on your vehicles. Not as sexy as those shiny speckled floors, but for comfort & function they're hard to beat :) Not the best picture but you get the idea

Horse stall mats are amazing.
They can take a BEATING and they're super sound deadening.

Yeah, been very happy w/ that choice, needed a corner of them cut out so I could swing a door open and then used that rubber for bump stops on my rear axle, very good material for that too!
