Coming out of the shadows to give y'all a very strange update I received on my order. It had been sitting in inspection for 31 days and I was informed today that a "clone" was being buolt
Someone else here posted something similar recently-can't find it at the moment.

May your second be much better than your first!

Haha thanks! I ordered on 12/29 (granite sport, manual, hard top) so essentially going back to D1 is tough. has definitely been one of the few comforts during this ride.

well jeep actually called me today, to tell me what i already know, my order is delayed because its a 2 door he also said that because it was a manual , and that they produce automatics first. Now i know that aint true because we have seen m/ts delivered . When i asked why i was told that my jeep was kz status by 2 other jeep reps, he told me that the last 8 digits of my vin were getting cross referenced with with an 88 wrangler!,but that it was fixed in the system now. said he would call me back in 2 weeks. On the bright side a local jeep dealer actual got a punk'n on their lot, so i was finally able to see one in person. Definately not the same color as the jeep website , but a nice dark orange which i like.

If you go the Miata route, and guessing you are talking the ND, be sure to read 345 page thread on manual transmission failures. Also plan for a decarb of the engine every 15k miles or so. I am having to take my 16 with 16k miles on it in for the 7th time for two issues.

124 may not have all the issues but resale value is a joke, Miata not much better.

Point being, while the steering issue sounds serious regardless of which way you go you face a risk on issues. Unless you buy like a Kia or a Civic. But then you are driving a Kia or Civic.
Indeed, ND. The 2019 is getting a very healthy power increase through engine revisions. I trust Japan so "1st year changes" on an engine are of no reliability concern to me.

I had heard that Mazdas don't have terribly bad carbon buildup on their DI engines, and wasn't worried about that, either. As far as the transmissions, I did intently look into the 6 speed problems, and it appears they've done something about it by now? As far as newer models not failing as much.

I do like the 124 styling more, but the Wrangler is the only vehicle I would ever consider supporting FCA with. Apparently the 1.4 delivers excitement such as "which check engine light code am I getting this week?"

not having that problem at all on the 124 and i've modded exhaust, tune, intake, intercooler, pipes, diverter valve and more..... love that car and i won't ever sell it, even for a JL

Oh, I recently rented a 124, trust me, I loved it! Personally, to own, I'd swing Mazda, especially with the 2019 set to rev out higher and produce 180hp. The styling is phenomenal on the 124.

It seems like the logical backup option to JL. Either way, I end up with a convertible. :)

that's good for the mazda factory. advantage spider for not only styling but since it's turbo it's tuneable. I'm well north of the 180 at this point ;-). it's an entirely different car at 200 than it is at 164 stock. everybody has a mazda. the spider is rarer and i don't know why they can only sell 3k a year if that. great ride. the one downside for me as a DD is why i'm getting a JL. been hit twice in a year because peeps don't see it. too low to the ground. SO says i can keep but can't drive every day. wants me to make 80 not go 80
