So I had my Jeep at the workshop to change both the timing belt and serpentine belt here about 1 month ago. (When changing the belts they need to dismantle the entire front end, meaning taking apart the cooling system.)

After 7 days while driving on the highway it started overheating. It reached 130C and the dash was flashing red. I stopped the car on the side of the road, and got a tow back to said workshop. After two days, they said they had a look at it, and that the fault was low coolant. Which seems odd, as I personally checked the coolant level, when I got the Jeep back from the shop.

Now, another 2 weeks later, the Jeep is starting to overheat randomly. It seems to start overheating when I am slowing down.
At one point it reached 108C and it didn't cool down after I stopped the car (engine running) but other times it seems to cool itself down when stopping. The coolant reaches above 100C just for a short trip to the store, and the fan kicks in at full speed often.

Last year we drove 11 000 km down to greece in the middle of summer. Doing some heavy off-roading and long days on the Autobahn, never had any problems with the Jeep overheating. The max temperature reached the entire adventure was 103C.

Anyone with any idea what it might be?

I'd say they didn't properly flush it and there is air trapped in the cooling system.
Less likely, thermostat or water pump malfunction, considering your recent maintenance.
Take it back to the shop.

Like pablo said they definitely haven’t reinstalled the cooling system properly. Did they replace the water pump at the same time ? Also make sure they routed the cooling pipes correctly and none are rubbing on each other. This has also led to coolant leaks and turbo failures in the past.

My wife's Jeep just had similar issue. Coolant tank was full and no leaks. Took it to a reputable shop and he found the high pressure tank was empty. To be honest I didn't know it had one or I would have checked it myself. He added a gallon of coolant and purged the air out of the coolant system and it has ran fine since. Her heating issue was only while she was sitting in a drive thru and never on the road.

Thank you. Was this a 2.2D?

Could not be. They dont use the 2.2 in the US, so far as I know.
The 2.2d has a normal coolant tank and an inter-cooler coolant reservoir tank.
Since you had work done on the cooling system, it's almost certainly the case that the system was not properly purged.

So the workshop has told me there's a leak in the turbo and that it needs changing. And this is the reason for the overheating.

Could the turbo suffer the leak problem from this constant overheating? Anyone knows if the turbo is water cooled?

Thanks!

There is an inter-cooler for the turbo, which uses cooling fluid.
You think the fact that the engine overheated so significantly numerous times has led to this fault with the turbo?

No idea man. It seems pretty clear that they did not properly put things back together though. I mean.. it didn't overheat before, they take the cooling system apart and then it does? Seems like a disreputable shop.

It has a bad reputation, but is the official Jeep workshop here in Oslo. Oh the irony!

I'm sorry to read what happened. In Europe it's difficult to find a dealer who knows how to put his hands on our jeeps. In fact I try to do many things myself.

Yep an air lock in the cooling system. If it's filled correctly this won't happen.
Your lucky it didn't blow a head gasket and cook the motor.
