Does anyone have any thoughts on operation of the gas engine while in e-save mode with battery save on. My question is what happens with the cooling oil supply to the turbo if it has spooled up just before the engine shuts down if you go down hill or come to a stop. Will this have any effect on it long term? Is it better to operate therefore, with battery charge mode selected rather than save mode to protect the turbo? Not sure if the coolant pumping is enough or if the oil pump is electronic or mechanical.

Oil pump looks mechanical, the Turbo is also liquid cooled with an electric pump.

Even in E-Save mode, the system is designed and coded to maintain safe operating temperatures for ALL components including the ICE and it's accessories (IE: the Turbo). This deep dive video breaks down all of the components and their operation. Note towards the end that the coolant is electronically controlled and fed through the engine and a separate reservoir feeds the battery pack. As @GATORB8 mentioned, the oil pump is mechanically gear driven by the engine. If the sensors see a high temperature indication with the turbo or the ICE as a whole, it's first reaction is to increase coolant flow followed by increased fan speed (since the ICE fan for the radiator is electronically controlled). If it sees additional cooling is needed to control oil pressure/temperature, it will power the ICE on to cycle oil through the system including the oil cooler.

If at any point it sees temperatures or pressures it cannot regulate itself, it will display appropriate warning messages in the dash to get the driver to either slow down or stop until it can bring everything back to safe operating levels.

Did you not select the turbo timer option?

My experience so far has been with e-save on, and the battery save option selected. The engine does not shut off, so you should not have any issues.
