Today was the first long road trip I made in my new 4xe. It was 60 miles one way. We live in Illinois so it is mostly flat farmland. I noticed when I was going downhill the motor would shut off and come back on when it needed to speed up again. The only way to tell it did it was to look at the tac. We could not tell at all when it shut off or turned back on.
It’s was very nice ride. I was averaging 26mpg on the trip.

Hi, we did NJ to IL two weeks back. Got 21 mpg at best. Did you charge the battery? I’m a little worried something is wrong with my jeep. It’s a ā€œnewā€ never title 4xe Rubicon 2023 started with 900 miles on it. Thanks

Conditions are a huge factor. What was your speed? Usually any speed over 60 you’re not going to get good mpg. Wind also will affect it.
I was on a rural road and had the cruise set at 60. On the trip up I had it on hybrid mode. The trip back I had the the a/c running.

The MPG you’re seeing includes the first 25 miles or so of electric range. The longer the road trip is, the less significant the electric range is, and the closer the MPG gets to the EPA highway rating of around 20 or 21. There’s nothing wrong with your jeep, you just drove longer.

We took our '21 down to The Keys one year, was just sick of the tesla (which is long gone ... good riddance ;) ), and it was not bad. That's about a 400 mile trip (one way) for us, it worked out to about 21MPG on the trip itself.

It wasn't too bad, not the quietest, not the most comfortable, but roomy, pretty good audio (had the upgraded Alpine) to keep us entertained and super fun once we arrived.

Once we got there, the place we rented allowed for easy charging, so we spent the entire week on 99% electric :)

At 60 mph you can probably get better than 20 mpg, I get 24 mpg at mostly 60 mph, with hard extended burst of 70-90 mph, it even includes some some e-save charge, this is calculating using the pump, not the dash.

It doesn't include the battery charge, that was exhausted by the time the engine kicked in.

Not really, after a certain amount of highway only driving the Jeep will kick on the engine even if the battery has plenty of charge left. There’s actually two ways this can happen.
1. After driving for long enough for high speeds in hybrid mode. Yesterday I got to around 30% SOC left before this happened.
2. After sustained somewhat aggressive driving in electric mode, usually 10-15 minutes or more.

In these cases the MPG calculator will show unrealistically high because its being partially propelled by the battery but only counting energy input from the engine.

Interesting to know that you can get to 24 mpg @ 60mph. The EPA highway test hits a top speed of 60 and only stays there for about 10 seconds, so I would expect the rating to over report MPG rather than underreport. I’ll take your pump readings over what the trip computer says though.

I’ve only been driving truck for 5yrs. The things you see at that height are astonishing. As of this Wednesday my commute went from 52 miles one way and lots of city driving to 9.4 miles and I’m a sales guy/back up driver now! Truck driving ain’t what it used to be 20 years ago! I used to go on runs with my uncle during the summers until I joined the army.

My calculations does not include electric miles, because my battery was at <1% when I stopped to fill up at Costco to hit the highway.
