What is the stud made out of? Is it metal? So I just finished this. I went under the jeep to see if I had the stud of death. My frame sticker wasn't like the one in the letter, so I guessed I had the stud.
When looking for the stud, its impossible to see unless you have the front of the gas tank skid plate off. Taking off the front of the gas tank skid plate is super easy and once you have it off, the stud is right there in front of your face. Too easy not to just remove it at this point.
I used a hacksaw blade and cut it off in about 2 minutes. A little paint over the frame and easy peasy it's done.
I would have spent more time unmarrying my tazer to take it into the dealer for them to do it. I know It won't show in their computer that's it done, but next time its at the dealer for something more substantial, they can take a look and mark it done. It was too easy not to do for my peace of mind until then.
Here's what I used:

You can see the stud here. It's pretty close to the tank, but not sharp.

And here it is cut off. A little paint and reassembly and you're all safe from a gasoline fire again.

Yup metal. What is the stud made out of? Is it metal?
Thank you for this. I spotted that stud and assumed that was it, but wanted to wait for confirmation before cutting it off. I have the MetalCloak skid plates but it looks like I will only have to take the engine/transmission one off to get at it - prefer to leave the fuel tank skid in place if at all possible. Here is the 29A Frame Stud Campaign document
