While I’ve read time and time again how some justify buying the black instead of painted fenders for ease of repairs and to avoid damage, I‘ve experienced the total opposite.
I had painted on my Sahara and purchased black Rubicon flares due to non-existence of ready to paint ones during Covid. Those darn black flares go more damage in a winter than I’ve ever seen on painted ones. The smallest rubs/scratches showed immediately.
So when spring came, I ripped them off and sent them for paint. They sanded them down to get rid of the textured finish, primed and painted them. After a few weeks I had them covered with PPF and can do like before and not worry about scratches and nicks from stone hits.
I removed and reinstalled them, and price for prep, sand and paint was $800 and worth every penny. Especially considering that it looks tons better too?
