While I’ve read time and time again how some justify buying the black instead of painted fenders for ease of repairs and to avoid damage, I‘ve experienced the total opposite.

I had painted on my Sahara and purchased black Rubicon flares due to non-existence of ready to paint ones during Covid. Those darn black flares go more damage in a winter than I’ve ever seen on painted ones. The smallest rubs/scratches showed immediately.

So when spring came, I ripped them off and sent them for paint. They sanded them down to get rid of the textured finish, primed and painted them. After a few weeks I had them covered with PPF and can do like before and not worry about scratches and nicks from stone hits.

I removed and reinstalled them, and price for prep, sand and paint was $800 and worth every penny. Especially considering that it looks tons better too?

I had PPF, Ceramic coat, and tint done on my 2023 Rubicon extreme recon and the detailing place damage both fenders. Instead of notifying me immediately that they scratched them they tried to correct and wet sanded them causing more damage. They are offering to refund the whole job which was $3,100.

the jeep is 45 days old with 1,200 miles on it so I am pissed.

My question is should I replace them with textured black, do something aftermarket, or upgrade to color match painted fenders?
Attached are the pics of damage.

I appreciate everyone’s advice.

I hate to hear this happened to you but I’m glad that you unlike the two others in the last 24 hrs have zero balls to go make the shop correct or refund monies for a flawed job. I’d take what they are offering you and immediately purchase factory replacements.

I truly wish you the best in your dilemma. Hopefully it works out for the best.

When you replace your flares, I will gladly take your damaged ones.
Yes there is something to be said about having damaged flares. I scraped my new flare on the side of an espresso hut turning in to get close to the window. Kinda forgot they stick out quite a ways from the door!

I guess the sound inside the hut scared the barista gal. Turned out it was just a few little scrapes that added some character.

The fenders are probably less than the 3100 job he got done that they aren't charging him for.
True dat! I misunderstood the OP.
