When we bought our 22 JTR it didn't have anything like this installed, but that was from a dealership three hours away.

Bought this from a dealership in metro Phoenix. I'm sure that the incremental cost of the tracking hardware and labor to install was rolled into the sales price, but if doing this keeps their costs down I think I benefitted from it as well. Their "out the door, no haggle" price was the best offer that I came across when I was searching for vehicles.

A different delearship had the added on vehicle tracker as a line item in their $2,700 of dealer installed "vehicle enhancements". When questioned about it, the salesperson said that if I ordered a vehicle from them, I could take delivery without any of that junk being installed. But that for any vehicle that went into inventory on their lot they installed all that stuff as their standard practice.

To be fair, unless you stuck your head under the dash the install was pretty clean. Only thing visible was that black housing with the LED and push button attached to the ribbon cable. The wiring taps that those spade terminals connected to seemed to be high quality as well. Needed to carefully pry the spade terminals loose with a small screwdriver, as they weren't coming undone just by pulling on them.

I plan to install both a trailer brake controller and MXT275 GMRS radio in that area under the dash, so this stuff had to go to make room.

Wanting to document what we do to my wife's 2026 JLU Rubicon X. I didn't do a build thread for our 22 JTR and have realized that it would have been useful to have done so.

The day we bought it:

It stayed in the garage until we got back from vacation and the guy who ceramic coated my wife's car two years ago could come and paint correct / ceramic coat the JLUR.

It ended up hitting 117 degrees F that day in Phoenix while he was working on it. After the coating cured enough, drove the JLUR up to our cabin.

First mod is to add RedLine Tuning hood struts. Didn't add them to our JTR until well into that build, so nice not to have to deal with that stupid hood strut.

Today I ripped out the dealer installed GPS tracker / immobilizer:

It was tapped into the OE wiring harness in five or six places, plus a ground. It was allegedly "disabled", but the fuse wasn't pulled and I didn't want to take the chance of it screwing up and not "failing safe" but rather failing so that starting was disabled.

You think of gold as an accent color, although that Gold does really look good, I put struts on the other day,

Wow, that is a lot of crap. You said it was strapped to the wiring harness, where specifically? I am looking under the hood of my 2024 now. Don't see anything obvious.

They literally just need to pull the fuse for the RF hub. The only way its getting stolen then is on a flatbed. Alternatively, a $2 kill switch would do the same and not mess with all that horseshit.

This afternoon cleaned the windshield as best I could both the inside and outside. Then applied this stuff to the outside:

I got the product for "free" when I had the windshield in our JTR replaced this past winter. I have no idea if it actually does reduce chips and cracks, but is does make water bead up on the windshield a lot better improving visibility when it is raining. The bottle is small, maybe 4 oz. but the instructions are vague "don't apply too much". Which I did when I did the windshield on our JTR. Took me about an hour to buff off the haze from applying too much product. So this time I used much less and it only took a couple of minutes of buffing with a microfiber cloth to get the glass surface all cleaned up.

Not likely. It still has less than 225 miles on it. Driven home from the dealership, then up to our cabin, and my wife drove it to the local post office once. Many parts have arrived:

But have more stuff that I've ordered that is still being shipped. I only want to tear the interior apart once on this build, versus how I did things on our JTR.

Such a nice color and Rubicon X looks so damn good stock. Sometimes I think may be if I'll get a new one just leave it stock.
