For the past 4 years I've been using a Thule 'Spare Me' bike carrier to transport my sand chairs and umbrellas to the beach when surf fishing.
The bike carrier works well enough, but sometimes the blocks and straps for the bikes get in the way when loading beach chairs.
I found a NIB Thule 'Spare Me' bike carrier on Ebay for an amazing low price, so I bid on it and won!

Today I mounted the new bike carrier making sure all the parts and pieces worked as they should.
Once that was done, It was time to modify the old bike carrier for dedicated beach duty.

A Dremel with a cutoff wheel made quick work of the plastic blocks.
After that, I zip-tied some pipe insulation to the horizontal supports, and just like that, I'm done!

Replaced the rear cigarette adapter with a dual USB quick charge and mini voltmeter. I did the front one too, so i figured might as well do the back. Also added a light to the tailgate. I run soft top and hard top so attaching it to the hard top was not a good option for me.

Not loud at all. I was very picky about what i wanted in sound from an exhaust. I wanted just enough to know there is an exhaust but i didn't want to have to talk over it and hear it drive me nuts on the highway. This perfectly fits the bill for me. When you start it up its got a nice sound to it, and when you step on it you can tell its there, but on the highway its not much louder than the stock.

Installed Falken WildPeak AT3W 285/70/r17 on my 2.0 Sport - a nice upgrade from the Dueler H/T 245/75/r17. Feels more solid and squared off, and it gave me a 1.3 inch lift to boot.

You might want to re-measure that 2.5 lift you think you got. should be more like 5/8's of an inch...

Nice, just got mine in the mail today. Might install it later. I only have 22 guage wire though, so i might have to wait.

Installed my Rugged Ridge HD stubby bumper and Quadratec Stealth winch (10,000lb. synthetic rope). I’ve got some minor cleaning up to do with wiring, and still need to finish wiring the power interrupt kit to Aux 1, but had enough for one day. Rear bumper should be delivered Tuesday...

Finished installation of Maximus-3 winch mount and d-ring loops. I began this last weekend but had a very minor hiccup, which Maximus-3 took care of promptly. I really like how clean their design is w.r.t. a minimal slot to cut in the bumper, and their mount and ring loops are solid stuff. Winch to be added next year.

Installed and tested some Rubi steel rear bumper protection that a friend and I made. If you hit the unprotected rear steel bumper coming off a ledge, the bumper will flex up into the lower portion of the quarter panel, marring the paint and possibly crinkling the metal.

When I jacked up the unprotected bumper, the top of the bumper nearly touched the quarter panel. With the protection installed, there was a lot more room between the bumper and quarter panel. This is good enough protection if I ease down on a ledge, but probably not enough strength if I drop the bumper onto a ledge (so I’ll try not to do that).

It will certainly provide more complete license plate protection than the Rubi tow hook did.

Edit: while these helped a bit, in real life, the bumper did still deform while coming off ledges; not enough to contact the tub, but pretty close. Too close for my comfort, so I’ve replaced this solution with a CavFab bumper.
