Did anyone else have problems getting those two clips on a smittybilt H20 10k winch that are used to mount the solenoid to the top middle of the winch? The clips dont seem long enough and the screws are too short. Any tips?

Yes!!!!! Those little screws wit the metric Allen key... wow. I think 1/2 of my install time was getting the box mounted. We got to work by just having the winch body upright and sitting the solenoid box on top. It eventually worked. The back plate is threaded too, what a hard design to get done. It will work in the end, lots of swearing is required. :)

It is difficult for sure and it took quite a while and several instances of me speaking harshly of the winch’s mother but it can be done. Mount the control box to the winch before mounting the winch on the plate.

This is what I’m likely going to end up doing sadly. Shitty design.

If you loosen the 2 side bolts of the top back bar on the the winch, you can spin it forward so the clips drop into the notch in the back and makes things much easier, but yes those clips are a major PITA.

@brianP Are you taliking about the back bar on the top as the winch faces you? are these bolts on the back side of that bar? I will give it a look. Thanks!!

Yes as you are looking at the winch the back bar that the clips mount to there is 2 allen screws on each side loosen them and you can pivot the bar so the clips fall right into the notch and then tighten everything up. The pic below isnt the best but I tried to highlight the one side where the bolt is (yellow circle).

I got you beat, the solenoid box is rubbing against my grill and scratched it :( I'm going to relocate it by the brake booster.

No my cabling is just beneath the grill area and fed up into the engine bay. I am using a Maximus-3 winch plate for reference.

Using the above mentioned winch plate I have about 1/2 inch behind the control box and it doesnt touch the grill at all nor do the cables.

My bumper came with winch mount/plate.

Does the Maximus 3 plate "relocate" the winch? The built in mount is not moveable. its all one big welded piece with the bumper

Photos attached for reference....

The box doesn't touch the grill. But the track/bar that the box sits on is so close to the grill the cables are pinched a bit. Its not too bad because i can move/slide them without tugging but still, dont want it to be a problem

Moving the box to the side of the winch would solve it but i like the centered look
