I removed my rear seat after a camping trip where it was in the way.
It’s just me and two dogs, so don’t need it.
Went wheeling today, and there was a flexing sound coming from the back. Not quite creaking, but like that.
The seat frame mounts are STOUT, and attached with some serious bolts, now.
I’m guessing they stiffened things up quite a bit back there.
The noise isn’t onerous, and I’m sure it will diminish when I build my 6” platform over the floor.
I’m just wondering if the flexing, if that’s what it is, is of concern in itself.
Might it lead to metal fatigue and cracking?

any time you articulate your jeep the sway bar and coil springs are going to make some creaking noise's initially.. Just my old ass getting out of bed each morning ;)

Or are you taking about a sound from inside?

Yes, I’m hearing it from inside. While I’m driving on rough ground at ~5mph.
It seems to be coming from where the seat was.

Back seat is not back in.
I would put the seat back in and drive and see if the noise goes away.. if it does then you know it's in the hold downs.

I have driven my 2 doors in the past with out a back seat.. and didn't have any issues, but never took them out of my four doors.. So I am just guessing

I’m quite sure it’s the “hold downs”. My question remains whether the noise indicates a problem.

Right, I am with you.. If you put the seat back in and it makes noise.. then I would suspect a problem.. If the noise stops, with the seat in.. then I wouldn't be as worried .. I hope that makes sense. Either way you will be able to explain it better if you take it in to get looked at. Those are the questions I would ask if you brought it to my dealership to get it looked at ..
