I had a set of 285/75R17 with no lift on mine for a while. It road 100 times better than the stock MTs. Only reason I took them off is I upgraded to 35x12.5 with some new wheels.
I think the Moab stock wheels are pretty good. why did you switch?

Long story... the shop that originally mounted the Ridge Grapplers managed to gouge up all 5 of the MOAB wheels. They tried to repair them and it looked awful. After some back and forth, they agreed to replace them for me. By going with the AEV wheels it actually saved the shop some money instead of replacing the MOPAR wheels. I’ve never been able to come across the weight of those MOAB wheels, but my asumption is the AEV wheels weigh less. My gas mileage has been unaffected by going with the larger heavier tires. The AEVs are an inch wider and with the backspacing/ offset difference it allows for the 35x12.5 inch tires I wanted to mount from the beginning without having to add a spacer.

Moab is on Rubicon suspension. I think people have said it’s about 1” higher than a Sahara suspension. You can just bolt up 33s with out any lift or spacers. I ran 315s (1.75 spacer needed) for little while when I was trying to decide which lift to go with. It looked really good on stock suspension with 315s and just spacers very drivable.

I ended up going with Teraflex ST1 kit with extended falcon bump stops.

Also had to add front and rear adjustable track bars and added mopar lift front lower control arms. The axles were off center even with a little 1.5” lift. Also do an alignment even though they say it’s not necessary but mine was a little off.

Hope this helps

Thank you! That does help. I like the amount your tire sticks out from the fender and the look with that lift is about perfect visually for me. Not sure about 315s though ... hmmmm. Is it quite a bit tougher to climb in? Once in a while my father-in-law will borrow ours and take my mother-in-law for a ride and she had a tough enough time with the stock height.

I really like how this looks too ... so those are 255s and not 285s, correct? I for sure want to get rid of the M/Ts ... just trying to decide on a tire and whether I want to drive the M/Ts for a while since they'll likely be hard to get rid of ... feeling like I might lean toward better on-road that off road this time around since I won't be doing anything too hardcore. Last Jeep I went with KO2s ... maybe the Continental Terrain Contacts?

It is a noticeably tougher to climb, but I knew we would be adding the power steps so that’s not an issue anymore. All depends how much $$ you wanna spend!

I'm glad they made it right. Correcting backspace / offset would be the reason I would move away from the stock wheels. My plan is to go to 35 x 12.50 in the future and aftermarket wheels will be the only real way to accomplish that without spacers (which my GF is ADAMANTLY against)

My bad - no 285's. I went back and edited my original post.

Some better pics. I have to say ride is basically the same. New tires were inflated to 40 like stock but I felt it was too much. Dropped to 38 and feels perfect
