2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara (JL)
Hello all,
I've been a lurker on the forum for a few months.

First time Wrangler owner - traded in my car for a new 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4x4 (JL) over the 2018 Christmas break.
The order was placed around the beginning of November 2018 & it arrived around mid-December.

Growing up in India, the "jeep" was known mainly as a popular utilitarian vehicle mainly used as a taxi in rural settings, hilly areas & farmlands.
Private owners included construction contractors & miners.

The Jeep Forward Control was also a very popular mini transport truck.

Urban & rural parts of the country included widespread usage of Jeeps as a police & an army vehicle till they were eventually replaced in the 90's by the Maruti-Suzuki Gypsy (known overseas as the Suzuki Jimny).

Up until the early 2000's Indian "Jeeps" have all been loose derivatives of the 1950's/60's Willys CJ-(3 something) that were built under license by Mahindra & Mahindra.
Some of my fond experiences with Jeeps were visiting construction sites with my mom's uncles in Goa. Underdeveloped roads in the late 80's & early 90's meant this was a sturdy vehicle to use.

That was it! It was never meant to be, nor marketed as a lifestyle vehicle.
This was until the early 2000's when off-roading became popular as an activity & has caught on tremendously with ample ground available for wheeling (as it's called in the US).

In the US, my past 2 cars have been (RWD & fairly quick) sedans but my family never really warmed up. (I'm not a fast driver by any standards but I love fast cars.)
Anyway, we decided to switch to something bigger, slower & I would have loved to keep my previous car forever but unfortunately living in NYC (Queens) - not enough space, not enough usage, insurance, garaging costs, etc. would add up.

Wife likes the SUV (higher) seating but we started off looking at an odd mixture of cars including the Alfa Romeo Giulia, VW Golf R, Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Stinger, Genesis G80, the Range Rover Sport & The Toyota 4Runner.

The Giulia & the Golf R are fantastic cars but were eliminated because of space constraints.
The other sedans were eliminated because they weren't SUV's

.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is too expensive & bulky, & the 4Runner desperately needs updated interiors.

I was pretty much set on the Range Rover Sport that I configured to the lowest cost with bare minimum options but because of the price point the Jeep Grand Cherokee (Overland spec) was also a strong contender.

Before we made a final decision, whilst talking my wife & me saw a Wrangler drive on the bridge outside our apartment window.
Out of the blue, I casually mentioned whether she'd consider one & surprisingly she heartily agreed.

So I looked up rated dealers within distance, drove to one with good reviews, & we factory ordered it the next day.

Some pictures taken right after delivery:

We got the 2.0l turbo with 8-speed automatic in the Sahara trim, which was chosen mainly because of the Selec-Trac "full time" 4WD system & 4 doors of-course. (I also like the Sahara name better than the Rubicon, or the Sport).

Driving wise, it's obviously no BMW, not even a Land Rover (actually drives pretty similar to an older Discovery Series II).
Even though the interiors are years ahead of the old CJ's, I was fully ignorant that Wranglers still had fairly basic interiors & it was very amusing that I had to fix in sound deadening strips & the headliner myself

(Hothead Headliners).

Looks awesome! - very comfy with a bunch of gadgets that were never seen in Wranglers before.
Learning to go everywhere much slower now & enjoying every moment of it. It's a funky little thing & the family LOVES it!

The only downside I would say is the wind-noise at highway speeds, & once the backup camera refused to turn on. But it reset after the car was left switched off for a few hours.

I have very limited experience in off-roading but have been looking up trails to go around, maybe in spring time.

Other than interior upgrades including grab handles, hard-wiring my dash-camera, etc. no mods / lifts planned at this time as this is mainly my daily driver & weekend family vehicle.

I've also received & returned a bunch of Jeep Waves & thumbs ups from JK & JL owners, driving around in NYC.

See all you people around! Lots of information on this forum!

Just waving from central illinois..Technically this is my first post although I’ve been quietly buying parts from members for a week or so now...lol.

I bought the wife her new daily driver, a 2018 jl sport (2door) about 3 weeks ago and then we brought it home and took off for Florida for almost two weeks! I’m 5 months shy of 40 and have had Jeeps since I was old enough to drive starting with a 95 yj I bought in 1997.

Currently we have our 2013 jku that we bought new and started building the first week we got it, actually I had the lift already bought and waiting at home for it.. she has been through many stages from daily driver status to a spare set of wheels and now she is a dedicated toy for Offroad and cruising around in! If you have a Instagram account check her out @gonecoastjk.

The wife has been on me to get her a 2 door jl since they came out mainly to save the expensive tires on the jk from alll the miles they were seeing being drug behind our Motorhome as our toad car and she really wanted a automatic transmission too. So a few week back after a endless search for a rubicon with no options other than a auto trans within a 500 mile radius of Springfield IL I told the wife it was either order one or settle for a sport (I wanted to order).. my wife isn’t as patient as me so she picked out the 2 door sport that we have now!

The newest member of the family is a black 2018 Jeep JL sport with 3.6 motor & auto trans, premium soft top, power windows and locks, convenience group with the 7” radio, remote start and garage door remote. It also has the upgraded wheels, limited slip rear end and the safety package that comes with the led taillights, rear parking sensors and cross path detection junk.. the wife really seams to like it and even though I said I wasn’t going to do a lot to it I’ve already bought a set of rubicon rails from a member and plan on either putting a rubi suspension or the Tera flex 1.5” spacer lift along with a set of 33”s under it and a front bumper to hook our tow bar too.. I’m sure I’ll stop right there!!! Lol

Thanks for having me and I’ll try and post a pic of the jeeps!

New to the forum, I've been looking here for jeep info for quite a while so figured I'd join. Great place, and I have tons of questions. Grew up driving my Grandpa's WWII jeep he bought when he got back from the war, still have a soft spot for them.

Just saying hello. I don't currently have a Jeep. I have family members and friends who have/had Jeep Wranglers. I've had fun riding in them but have never really wanted one of my own until I saw the JL. I haven't driven one, yet, but I really like the looks of the JL. Just researching and maybe will be an owner down the road. I've already read and have seen lots of great stuff on here!

Howdy everyone,

Name's Andrew. I'm here because, well, the Jeep bug bit me again. My younger brother had a 2001 TJ with some work done to it that I drove around a bunch and now that summer and graduation are almost here I'm considering one. I wouldn't be buying until mid-may at the earliest so I have time to weigh several factors.

I'm undecided on color (Red, Blue, or Mojito) but I want a 2 door, 6-speed, Sport S with tan top & seats.

I would appreciate any insight into best practices for working with dealers and general ownership. I am aware of the Tread Lightly discount (did it roll over into 2019?) and am looking into Costco discounts as well. Can anyone recommend any good dealerships to work with? I'm outside of Houston, TX but will be moving to Ausitn in May. I'm happy to travel and have have reached out to Koons in VA; they seem to have pretty good prices.

Looking forward to becoming a part of the Jeep community!

I would just keep looking and keep building (online) different Jeeps and see which one you end up coming back too. I almost bought a Jeep from Koons and wish I had - I'm not happy with the dealership I bought mine from. Take your time and have fun with the process!! You'll absolutely love your new Jeep!!
