been building a new jeep wrangler and I cant believe the prices. I have not bought a vehicle in many years but I am almost 35k for a sport, almost 40k for the sport s. I don't mind buying a jk but the prices are only a couple grand difference at the major used car sellers. I need a part time job.

I'm in the same boat. About $36,000 for a Sport or $40,000 for Sport S with basic options like Auto, hardtop, tow, LSD.

Remember you should be able to purchase at minimum discount of 1% below invoice. So you can knock off $2,000 to $3,000 off MSRP.

You should be able to get deep discounts on new JKs later this year, if not already. The JL appears to be a dramatic improvement, but the JK is still a respectable Jeep.

And definitely check the pricing forum board for dealerships offering significant discounts on JLs. There are two on the forum here offering 5% under invoice, and another in Idaho frequently described as offering good deals if you finance through them, although no official JL prices I’ve seen from them.

But, yeah, the most historic SUV in the market is definitely a tough pill to swallow, price-wise.

Pricing seems high, but a few things to keep in mind:
-Everyone is getting absurdly long loan terms these days, so automakers think they can price into the stratosphere and people will say "well, the payment is still in my budget, so..." Nevermind that payment is mostly interest for the first few years
-Wranglers are the slowest-depreciating mass-market vehicle on earth (followed closely by the Tacoma), so a $45k Wrangler actually has a significantly lower total cost of ownership than say a $35k Kia (or other vehicle that depreciates like a rock)

Just finalized my order with Kent at Dillon, my 2 door RUBICON is $33,918!!!!!! Now, its a stripper, which is how I like them, and that includes $1k off for Chrysler financing deal I may or may not take BUT even without it a Rubi under $35k was my goal - achieved. It will have the Premium Soft Top and LEDs only.

I like cloth seats, check, only want a 2 door, check, I like a soft top, check, I like manual transmissions, check. For me, the BASE Rubicon is loaded and the only must have on it was the LEDs because I am aging rapidly and I like to see well at night.

I priced out a fully loaded Rubicon around $53k. Might have to go to a base rubi for now and add options like leather and so on after. I didn't want to do that. However I been reading that there's dealers providing 5-8% below invoice but they are all in the East Coast. I'm on the South West so that will be quite a trip. All my local dealers are 2-6k mark up for the JL currently.

Exactly! True cost of ownership had more to do with what it’s worth when you sell it.

I just drove a 2018 Ford Raptor for the last few months, and my total cost of ownership when I sold it was $0.00. Because I made $2000 over what I paid on it. Subtract fuel, interest and insurance, and I’m probably right around the free mark

JK or JL?
JL!!!

And I totally agree on cost of ownership. I paid roughly $28.3k for my 2012 JK Sport through the Tread Lightly program. Sold it for $15k with 122,000 miles on it! Dollar per mile the least costly vehicle I have ever owned. I have stepped up to the Rubicon because it will now be our 3rd/weekend/fun vehicle and see very few miles. Hence, I expect the resale to be ridiculous.
