If you have cold winters, its below freezing here right now, I'd say get the hardtop if you can. I never had a problem with my soft top on my TJ in the winter but a hardtop is just so much easier to clean snow off of. If you get the soft top only just plan on scratching it up because no one is going to stand out in negative temp degrees and baby their top as they are trying to clear the windows. If you are ok with that then cool. The jeep will be plenty warm inside with the heater going and who can see out the back anyways with that little window and tire in the way.
