What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

Well not today but I need to get caught up. Just made my first payment so a little over a month and so far I got the local Goodyear shop to trade me some 285/70r17 duratracs for my stock Michelin all seasons (wasn’t a straight trade but I was happy paying $30 a tire installed). Installed a ram mount on the passenger grab bar for my phone. A ronin 50 cal bullet antenna replaced the stock whip. Removed the euro fender things, and installed a grill insert from dirty acres. Have plenty more to do but figure I’ll have this about 10 years until my oldest takes it as her first car so I can take my time with the mods.

My newly installed 35" tire was vibrating a little much, so I removed it and changed the set up. I thought I'd share what I did, and what I used for anyone else adding 35" tires for the first time. This is on JL Sahara.

I'm using a Rough Country relocation bracket which seems to be rock solid. Will add the HD reinforcement soon to be safe.

1. Removed the tire. Rookie's tip - don't let that sucker drop the last foot, or it will bounce right back in your face

2. Re-routed the third brake light wire to give a little more slack in the cable - just undo the torx screws from the light mounting and lift the wire to the inner track giving an extra inch or so.

3. Extended the bump stops and put on a rubber foot to apply more even pressure on the tire (previously had cut PVC pipe only)

I used a piece of 1 1/4" OD PVC tube (a washing machine hose - $5 at Home Depot) and cut it to fit. This sits perfectly inside the factory bumpstop. I then used a rubber leg tip (meant for furniture - $3 for 2 at Home Depot) on the other end with a 1 1/4" interior diameter and 32mm in length. This sits nicely against the tire to distribute any pressure and stopped any vibration.

4. Finally done, I found out how hard it is to mount a nearly 100lbs 35" wheel/tire combo solo! My solution was to lift onto storage crates and get close enough to level up, then do final short lift to the carrier. That's my weight lifting done for the day

UPDATE - December
Booking in to have the 2” Mopar Lift added in January. Zero rubbing around town, but did get a couple of contacts on the freeway. Nothing major but clear contact over a couple of large dips at 70mph. Hoping the drive will be similar on the road, but more looking forward to taking it off the roads

Did you need spacers with the larger tires?

No that is no lift or spacers... I got some wheel spacers and Teraflex coilspacers but they are not installed

Well, a day late for this thread, but yesterday I went on first trail run at hidden falls, so what I did to my JL was got it dirty, put a few scratches on the frame rails and a let it be a Jeep! I am learning that these vehicles are like capable than at least this driver.

Christmas was very good to me this year! I got a Smittybuilt X20 10,000lbs winch mounted on a Rusty's Offroad winch plate, 2- 6" KC Hilites Pro Sport LED lights mounted to the Mopar A-pillar brackets, LOD Signature Series Rock sliders (ordered) and Mopar grab handles. The Jeep is REALLY coming along!

Well it did help me dodge a tree stump. But hauling around all the firewood has decreased my mpg...

….or the far more likely scenario in my mind is that this is a crown, and you, like Eddie Murphy in the movie Coming to America, are so clearly royalty from a foreign land, of whose culture I am not familiar with (I mean you no disrespect your majesty) whose hidden among us so as to, in the true spirit of your exceptional character, not expect any special treatment in our foreign land to you.
