Wow. That was some interesting reading in the preceding few pages... Well, all I did was install this Smittybilt roller fairlead license plate holder. You might say it was a "bright" idea, no?

Wow, sorry I missed the rack!
I give him kudos for inventing different things.
I do however caution building and using things that might endanger other motorists in case their in a chance of breakdown. Not saying this is the case here but with a purchased product you have their company to fall back on if a failure happens.

I myself did not buy a $55,000 well tuned machine to throw homebuilt items on it. I am 56 now and have been through all of that in the past when I was much younger, poorer and inclined to build my own things.

I have also learned the trait of patience over the years and now know how to simply wait until I can afford what I want to add! I have also learned the fine art of shopping for a better deal on a good product and not needing top brand items just for a brand name.

This guy must be a real hoot on social media if he gets upset over a little comment though!

Now this is fair criticism. I could not agree more, anymore that if I disagreed I'd respect your opinion. Besides, people earn my likes for making what I think are good points, not agreeing with me.

I can completely relate to this:

"I myself did not buy a $55,000 well tuned machine to throw homebuilt items on it. I am 56 now and have been through all of that in the past when I was much younger, poorer and inclined to build my own things. "

..if not two points. $55K can just as easily be seen as a justification to put only the professional stuff on the rig, as it can to hold off spending for a while, especially when you need a roof rack to take kids stuff to college, but one hasn't been made ***commercially available*** at the time you needed the rack. I should qualify that for accuracy. The GOBI was being sold but back ordered at the time.

The only rack available at the time was the MOPAR roof rails one which could not handle the footprint, let alone weight of what I needed to pack. I too, like you, make safety my top priority--not that you've anything but NOT accused me otherwise.

P.S. A U-Haul type trailer wasn't an option.

Not so much a "what I did TO my JL today" ... more like "FOR my JL today", this is far from some of the incredible mods that some of you are doing ... I just wanted an easy way to carry my Yeti, find the mouth opening in the dark and make something that I thought would look cool. Still a prototype as I have to work on the logo some ... now to build a black one with red thread to go with the interior ... once I build it, then I guess I can almost say it is "what I did TO my JL today"

Looks great!

Say...I wonder if there's a market for you making Jeep specific "horse stirrups."

I have the same one and love it except it seems like the sag in the front when the top is on gets worse by the day
I've got the same problem with the sag. I also don't like the strap placement with the factory mopar grab handles. But besides that, it is a great quality shade.

Hello all, I have a question for ya. I own a JL Sahara and so like the silver trim that the Sahara comes with around the grill openings but would like to remove the silver trim around the headlights.

Is it possible to remove the silver trim around the head lights? Does anyone know?

View attachment 121532
On Sahara and Rubicon the headlight and grille trim are attached together behind the grille. (See here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/sahara-grille-inserts-painting-different-color.4798/)

You can remove it and paint just the headlight part if you'd like. I'm pretty sure the after market inserts are designed just for Sport models which don't have the trim.

Waiting on mine now. Looks good. I’d like to see the powder coat splatter if possible. Seems like a great product, just hoping it’s QC’d to a high standard too.
Here is a picture of the splatter (it is hard to photograph being black

Yea that’s pretty sloppy.
yes it looks like someone painted over rusty metal, the top cover and the top wings are pretty good however (just minor imperfections) however just about every other part had this. I have a paint thickness meter and it does not appear to be rust as the paint thickness is definitely heavier at the splatters. You only see it on my when you look inside and some pieces are hidden completely.

I would be interested how your install goes especially if you have a alpine sub...

Well today I watched a ton of videos talking about the muffler delete on the 3.6 JL and decided to pull mine off. So removed the factory muffler and fired it up... have to say I kinda like it. Sounds a little 350/370z-ish.... Which I have always been a fan of that sound. So Im going to cruise it around for a bit and see how I truly like it.
