Was driving today and accidentally double-tapped the “Mute” button for the radio and to my surprise the rear camera turned on. I was driving on the highway so obviously not in Reverse. I’ve had my fair share of problems with the electronics of the JL (sometimes the back-up camera screen is solid blue when I put it in R, sometimes it’s all static, etc.) so I was convinced that it was a fluke at first. Double-tapped Mute again and the camera view went away. Double-tap again and it came back on. Actually pretty cool.

Not sure if that’s a hidden feature or just a glitch in my system. I will say that I have a Tazer in my Jeep, but I have not touched the camera settings (and anyway, to access the Tazer features you have to go thru it’s menu options).

This work for anyone else?

@JLJS74

What you are seeing is normal behavior for the JL IF you have a Tazer JL installed/married. Double tapping the mute button, activates the backup camera when you are driving forward...

The double tap of the mute button turns on the camera and it will stay on until you press the X on the radio screen, or double tap again, to turn it off. So, another words, the camera will stay on until you turn it off.. no 10-15 seconds and then it automatically, turns off.

Do know, you can click on the backup camera icon (find under apps) and the backup camera will go on when moving forward, BUT will only stay on for about 10-15 seconds and then it automatically is forced to turn off.

What you are seeing is normal behavior for the JL. Double tapping the mute button, activates the backup camera when you are driving forward....BUT, the camera will only stay on for say 10-15 seconds because the camera will automatically, shut off after 10-15 seconds.

Now, if you have the Tazer JL in the scenario, the double tap of the mute button turns on the camera and it will stay on until you press the X on the radio screen to turn it off. In this scenario the camera will stay on until you turn it off.. no 15 seconds and then it automatically, turns off. The camera will stay on until you turn it off, like I mentioned.

.
Does this work ONLY if you have the Tazer? I tried it today with no Tazer and no luck. I also have the 7 inch screen if that makes a difference.

Would have been nice . . .

@WranglerMan

You have a 7" radio, and your Tazer JL is presently unmarried..... can you still double tap the mute button and the camera comes on?

Yeah, I was worried that maybe someone had already posted about the button, but hadn’t come across it so I figured may as well make sure its out there. Any other cool shortcuts that people are aware of?
I'm glad you posted about this backup camera trick. I didn't know or didn't see it in another thread either. Thanks! The other buttons that I do know about is the "service mode". You hold the driver's side temperature up, temperature down and front defrost buttons simultaneously. It can take several tries to get it just right.

There has to be a list somewhere of the "button tricks" all in one spot. I know they are spread around everywhere if you stumble on them, but I wish there was one comprehensive button list. Anyone know of such a list?

@jeremyjeep if you are asking about the Tazer button options these are the only ones I am currently aware of but maybe we can get a list going

Cooldown Mode: With the ignition on but engine not running, press the right arrow and cruise cancel
button at the same time to turn the engine fan on High. They will also turn off automatically if the
battery voltage drops below 11V.

Winch Mode: With the engine running, press the left arrow and cruise RES buttons at the same time.
The engine will rise to 2000 RPM. There may be a few seconds delay before it changes. It will NOT raise
if you touch the accelerator pedal, and will cancel if you do.

Force Backup camera: Double tap the “mute” button to switch to backup camera (8.4 screen only_. ( not sure this works with other screens )

Partial Reboot: Press left arrow and cruise RES with the ignition set to RUN and engine is not running,
and the Tazer will reset several systems including the PCM (engine adaptives), RF Hub, Instrument
cluster, ABS, BCM.

Dash Menu: You can start the show by setting the dash to “Audio” mode, then press the left arrow and
tap cruise CANC button. “Lightshow?” will display on the dash. Hold left arrow and tap cruise on/off
(center) button to turn on the first light show in the sequence. Again to advance to the next show. Exit
the menu (left arrow and CANC) to turn off the show.

Line Lock: While in 2WD, press and hold the left arrow and cruise set(+) buttons. Continue to hold and
pump the brakes twice, firmly. The Jeep will stay held using only the front brakes while you press on the
accelerator to do a burnout. “Brklock:frt” will be displayed in the cluster.

Rock Crawl (patent pending): Press and hold the left arrow and cruise set(-) button, and pump the brakes
twice. The Jeep will hold using all four brakes while you can work the pedals to apply torque, and
release the buttons when you’re ready to move. “Brklock:all” will be displayed in the cluster.

I may have misspoke in my earlier post when I said " What you are seeing is normal behavior for the JL."

My recollection was the double tap the mute button thing worked for me prior to my use of the Tazer JL, but perhaps my recollection was wrong. A stock JL might not let you double tap for b/u cam...

Lets see what other's say in this thread regarding their JL and double tap.

The backup camera is also able to activate via the Aps menu. In fact, I use the backup camera when I pull into my garage to make sure I'm in all the way, every time, so I made it one of my aps in the tray along the bottom of the screen.

I tried double-tapping the mute button. It didn't trigger the backup camera. :( Bummer. I have the 8.4 screen. No JL Tazer installed.
