The misses doesn't give a rats ass about anything automotive, except her 25 Wrangler.

She has owned it for 14 months now and has been bugging me since day 1 to paint the ugly stock muffler and tailpipe black.

To do this properly, I would have to remove the axleback, prep, etch, prime and paint. No matter how I do this, I will have to do it every year. As soon as it fades, gets a scuff or the paint flakes she will be on my ass again. Those oem systems are just not made to be painted.

I am shopping for a nice looking axleback, as close to stock sounding as possible.

The $270 Summit system looks and sounds pretty good to me.

Will anyone admit to owning this system?

Listening to the video clip I like it, but I wouldn’t call it close to stock sounding if that’s really a top priority.

Or, buy that black summit muffler (but dont tell her) and when she complains aboud the sound tell her thats because the black paint is trapping the heat inside and causing the exhaust to be louder.

and remind her that she stills “owes you” for all that pain in the ass prep and paint work

The black paint on that muffler will probably still peel. Maybe just paint your muffler in place and be prepared for remedial touch ups. I think others have posted about painting their mufflers without removing them.

Prep in place and use some VHT or some simiilar paint, it will require rock rash touch up at the very least.

I also wanted a similar as close to stock. After stupid hours of research went with the AFE High tuck and am super happy. On idle slight rumble and other times quiet as hell.
But thats my take.....Im sure others have gone through multiple exhausts

Her automotive knowledge is quite impressive. She has helped me build 2 F100's and numerous vintage Mustangs and Harleys. I'm not getting anything past her.

Or just install a muffler skid plate and you won’t see the muffler. I have the Rival 4x4 one, made out of aluminum and easy to install.
