Is it the glass... or the windshield angle?

This seems to come up every few months.

Some Jeep owners say the glass itself is the problem.

Others argue it's simply the price we pay for an iconic, upright windshield.

After spending some time behind the wheel, where do you land?

Fair enough! We know not every thread is going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Our hope is simply to spark some good conversations and help newer owners learn from the community's experience.

Merely coincidence there’s a product to sell. I much more appreciate the direct approach targeted info versus the faux casual conversation that just happens to be in line with a product.

It's the more upright angle of the glass that makes it more prone to damage than other, more laid-back, angles where rocks might glance off.

It’s not the glass composition and it’s not the angle of the glass. It’s the frame the glass is mounted in/on. The overall design lacks sufficient rigidity. I can hear my windshield frame creek in the upper driver side corner depending on how I take a turn or how hard I’ve hit a bump.

My 1995 YJ had a much flatter windshield which was very upright and I never had issues with cracked windshields. My 2007 JKU was very prone to windshield chips / cracking. My 2014 JKU is about one fourth as bad as my 2007 was. I have been looking into replacing my 2014 JKU with a JL for a couple of years but have not found the right deal, although I came very close when I joined this forum.
