All the work I have done in Detroit, the roughest part I ever go to is the Delray area, so I don't get to see the real rough places... Some really good middle-eastern food in Detroit though. Well, lots of good food anyway, but that did surprise me specifically.

Downtown Detroit is pretty safe for the most part. You get a couple blocks away from downtown, and in to the hood,, not so much so.
