Ram’s Officially Bringing Back The Rampage And Dakota In A Bid For Smaller Truck Domination

Could this be a JLU sized truck when the Gladiator switches to the Dakota platform?
?

The Gladiator is the JL-gen truck. If the former switches to a different platform, then it's no longer a Gladiator, and would presumably just be the resurrected Dakota using whatever separate/different architecture Stellantis has in mind.

Possibly the next-gen Gladiator, if it keeps the name and construction linked to the next-gen Wrangler, will be available with two doors as well as the expected four.

The use of the word "smaller" in the linked article is instructive. Small trucks have long since been regulated out of existence in the US market. What we have now are so-called mid-sized platforms that rival the dimensions of the older full-sized light trucks.

I believe they have already announced that the Gladiator and Dakota will share a platform, and will be built at the Toledo facility where the current Gladiator is built. And I believe they have been asking questions of owners if the Gladiator would be better as an actual truck, not a Wrangler derivative.

What I am wondering is if they will then make a JLU sized Wrangler with a sorta bed and call it the Scrambler.

It would be interesting to see that one come to pass.

Were I the one with the authority to make that decision, I'd first have to be sure of the market's perceived appetite for nostalgia. Even then, it's a roll of the dice. I remember Scramblers. They didn't sell in big or even average numbers...which is why the rare survivors command the selling prices that they do today (we see similar with clean 2004-06 LJs.)

I fully believe that if they do something like this that it will be 4-5 seater of some sort. I would assume the rear seats would fold down to enlarge the 'bed' size. Whether it's with 4 full doors, or 2 full doors and 2 rear-hinged doors, I don't know. It probably wouldn't be a 2-door, but who knows?

Its going to be a 4 door 10000000% The 2 door Wrangler will stick around as a nod to the few people that actually buy smaller vehicles and everything else will be far larger than needed just like every other manufacturer out there.
