It might actually work out better with the soft top. Anyone got the upgraded system and the soft top in here?
I have the soft top and the upgraded system. I upgraded to the Alpine because I was getting the Soft top. It is amazing! The wife and I drove to Steamboat a couple weeks ago and the sound was great with the top and doors off doing 70 on the highway. No rattle that I can hear.

I've got the upgraded system. The bigger screen is nice, it's all clean in the back and stock looking which is good.

But yes for the money, you could get improved DIY sound similar to what you show that could outperform the alpine. Add some front/mid upgrades too. Although with that setup even a little more volume in that enclosure would make a world of difference in the sound quality. (I know space is premium there and in the wrangler though). I'd bet even that tight enclosure may beat the upgraded audio system, although you can't beat physics (enclosure volume) to get good sound, that speaker/amp/crossover probably does quite well.
No hate on the alpine as it's good and you didn't have to rip your jeep apart! I'd just do a sealed 8" sub in a 1 cubic foot sealed box with some batting inside .. 3/4" mdf with whatever your favorite mod/tweet combo is. Run a good 4 channel amp with the back bridged to the sub and go! A good 8" in a properly made sealed box can hammer it with some watts!

Is that 900 setup water proof/resistant?

You also get the larger screen, off road pages, etc... with the adder...
Absolutely can be.. Give me a $1400 budget? No contest as far as sound... Offroad pages etc? No... But that's where we differ... Important to you but not to me and the bigger screen? Nope. I'll take android auto and Google maps over the Garmin .. And G maps is really good with off road. As an installer I can create anything especially because the uconnect head unit is soooo good. I don't hate the Alpine but it sounds muddy to me. If you like it great I'm not hating . . I'm just saying it's not a 2018 Lexus LS with a Mark Levinson .

Yeah, I was just talking about the sound quality for stock alpine vs an aftermarket setup. It was a tough choice for me and just sharing how it turned out. I agree the rattles would certainly be the same and are independent of the audio system. In fact if you have rattles, more bass is usually annoying (IMO). I was just trying to say I haven't encountered any rattles with the hard top. Maybe it will when I put it back on, it gets more mileage, etc.

I was thinking of doing the aftermarket sound mat in the roof and paint it black. But mine shipped with the sound insulation for som

I was thinking of doing the aftermarket sound mat in the roof and paint it black. But mine shipped with the sound insulation for some reason. LOL, so not sure I want to take that off just to put in some that's slightly better....guess I'll see how things go through the hard top winter.

(see what happens when a rubi wanders in here messing things up, lol!)

I like this idea...Which aftermarket sound mat were you considering for your hardtop?

I've added a 8" jl audio sub that sounds great and am considering replacing the (4) 4" speakers, installing a used amplifier and jl fix 86 to add better mid and high levels. Any budget recommendations?

Definitely agree! I used to make sub boxes and play around with that stuff, but went with the stock fit/finish on this one. Not enough time for me to play with audio gear anymore, but dollar for dollar you can get better sound for sure. The larger screen is the one hard aftermarket fix.

Wonder if some batting would help much with the stock sub? Anyone try that?

The forums here talk about hothead and sound assassin. Since they gave me the stock liner for some reason I'm less inclined to go to the trouble now!

Also been running soft top all summer :)

Here's my Sport S. Added the same tires as on a Rubicon. Frankly, looks-wise I like it better than the Rubicon. Capability-for-your-money the Rubicon can't be beat but I don't really need it for what I do.

Looks Great! What Size Tires are those and do you have any pics from the front or rear or at an angle to the Jeep? I’m trying to gauge how far they are offset and stick out. Thanks for sharing!

They are Rubicon tire on stock rims. So 285-70r17.

They do not stick out at all.

Go Jeep!!!
Those are the standard tires unless you order the anti-spin rear differential option in which case you get the AT's (plus the differential and a Dana44 axle),.
The AT's are really nice, but I'm swapping for Rubicon tires and happily pocketing the remaining $6K or so price differential.

Yes, lots of people put them on. I considered it - but there are better (to me) rails out there.

If you already have the JL Sub.. Then you are really right there ! I'm not big on replacing the rear "fill" speakers. .. Do the front mods and tweets with a digital 2 channel amp and you'd be pretty surprised!
