THEY didn't damage his jeep. The transport company did. Why would the dealership eat that cost?
Very good point . And the transport company is a contractor of the manufacturer . The transport company has not explained if the Jeep was flawless when delivered to the dealer . So , either the manufacturer , transport company , or the dealer owes him .

The dealer is going to be paid for the damage claim they file with the transportation company. The customer doesn’t file the claim. Why should the dealership keep that money if the customer takes delivery of the damaged Jeep?

The customer is the agrieved party the way I see things. So the damage claim money should flow to him as an additional discount. The transportation company, in effect, compensated him.

The customer should only take delivery of a flawless Jeep, following REPLACEMENT of the parts. The only person out any money at that point is the transporter.

The only thing anyone owes him is a perfectly new Jeep. The Jeep he ordered.

Let me explain how this works. I run, and have run a dealership now for umteen years. A vehicle comes in, it gets inspected. If there is a flaw, it is noted and the transport company is repsonsible. But...the manufacturer pays for the damage. It doesn't cost the dealership anything! The dealer orders the parts does the labor, sub-lets if he has to, files a warranty ticket and gets re-imbursed. If a car is dropped off after hours, the dealer has 48 to inspect said vehicle and notate any transportatino damage. It happens oftern. Dealers do not have to disclose it unless it is over a certain amount. At which point, the manufacturer will usually buy it back from the dealer, repair it, then re-invoice it to a different dealer.
Replacing / repairing this is easy. If it is a replace, the "dumb monkey ass hat moron technicians" can handle it and there will not be an issue.

OP - this sucks it happened. Truly does. But replacing it is easy and the paint "will match" and the knuckle dragging techs will do a good job.

There would not be any diminished value from a proper repair, in this case simply replacing the windshield. Nobody would even know.

As @sirryan is a dealer , I have an unrelated question . Why are customers charged for labor at a far higher rate than the labor is paid ? Just asking .

But that is not fair to the buyer is it ? Isn't that why carfax reports are needed by used car buyers ? Why shouldn't a new car buyer know what happened to his vehicle ?

It's a manual. It is a flat rate thing. A job is supposed to be "X" hours at a dealer or any repair facility. A good tech can usually do the work in 50% of the time. I have always disliked that. But it keeps it fair, I guess. And truthfully, if I trade for a used car, when it goes to service for a UCI,(used car inspection) sales department is charged the same amount as a customer is for labor. Hell, my parts department charges me more (i can't use the coupons customers can, LOL).

You forgot to specify how many tries do they get ? The customer is not required to go along with any of their tries . That dent on the window frame means they damaged the customer's Jeep . Now they want his money . I'd walk .
According to the OP, they've agreed to replace the windshield from another Mojito JL. This is their first try and it looks like they're handling everything just fine and taking care of him. They're not holding a gun to his head and they never demanded he accept the vehicle damaged. Do you not read posts or do you just like to argue for the sake of arguing?

Because this isn't a bent frame that was straightened out, its a bolt-on piece getting replaced because of a dent.

But here's the thing; that will never happen. Nobody is going to give you a ridiculous discount based on what looks like a <$2000 repair.
So give him the $2,000. and we'll call it even .

If the OP was interested in a reasonable discount, (AKA the cost of repair) then sure. But, his two options he was considering were replace the windshield, or replace the Jeep. I don't see either of those as unreasonable.
