I know a lot of folks are putting on some thick tires and/or have wheels with backspacing and offsets that really begin to crowd the length of the backup camera tube.
Eventually I plan to put on 37" tires and I already have some wheels that don't leave much space between when the camera view starts and the wheel (not to mention those fat tires that would go on later).
Are there any decent solutions out yet--or being designed--that would relocate or offer the camera to be pushed farther out?
I have seen a couple of homebrew solutions (most of them involve removing the camera from the tube and relocating it) and it doesn't look like there is much camera wire to even offer much rear-ward movement.
for example, I saw ADD Offroad already put together something to make their tailgate work:

Anyhoo, does anyone know more about this problem and are there any products or advice that might help with this issue?

I have this problem and attempted to pull apart the whole rear tire carrier to make a home made solution. Without making it look like crap I gave up. I am patently waiting for something that looks a bit more like stock to come out. My wife who drive the JL daily however, is not as patient...

It really only needs to be rotated up maybe less than half a CM to clear the red lines from the wheel so the beep disappears. I think with some spacer and a dremel I can rotate it up enough to clear the rim. Just slightly afraid to break the stock camera mount...

Someone save my marriage and find a solution for us that doesn't have exposed wires :)

Anyone know if the Mopar oversized tire carrier pushes the camera out at all?

Bump! I need to move my camera to my swing out spare tire carrier. Mounting it is no issue but I need to extend the cable. Anyone seen anything yet?

I have the same issue. I have the JCR Offroad backup camera solution because I bought their rear bumper, but I'm not fond of the idea of cutting the samera tub off and locating the camera to their setup with the back of the camera electronics exposed.

I too need to find a better solution that stock, my 37" tires and wheels block the lower 1/3 of my field of vision from the camera.

You can split the camera from the rest of the harness and run it down behind the passenger taillight then back up along your swing out tire carrier. I've been running it this way for a while. Hardest part is taking the "tape" off the bundle of wires.

Sorry I don't have a swing out tire carrier. I am using the stock carrier with the Mopar hinge reinforcement and oversized spare relocation kits.

I run the JCR setup with the shield tire carrier. It still gets a bit of tire in there, but slid all the way out it works pretty well. I thought about adding another hole or 2 so it's even better though. I did change some of the lights that came with their kit as well as added disconnects for when I have to change my tire.

Since I still have the stock tire carrier, I am reluctant to take a hacksaw to the camera tube to mount the JCR solution. What's more isn't the back of the camera actually exposed in their bracket? That can't be good.

I agree 100% with the not wanting to cut. I went tire carrier for that reason, that and tire weight. Yes the back of the camera is exposed, but just barely, most of it is covered with plate. I have noticed that there seems to be a bit more water that sticks to the camera now though.

I'm tempted to go ahead and buy the JCR tire carrier, but their camera mounting system is still a big question for me. I keep hoping that there will be a better solution soon. I'm already invested in the hinge reinforcement and oversized spare relocation kit too.

I like the solution, I have a relocation bracket in my garage right now because I went that way. If I remember when I get home today I'll take some pics for you. If you don't see a response here send me a PM since I probably forgot.

My config right now is that I have installed the Mopar hinge reinforcement and oversized spare relocation kits. With a 37 inch tire, the bottom 1/3 of my screen is the inside of the wheel. I'm using an Artec license plate relocation bracket and while it moved the license plate appropriately, the overall setup does nothing to improve the backup camera location and field of view.

To fully use the JCR camera kit that came with the bumper, I'd need to take a hacksaw to the camera tube that protrudes from the stock wheel carrier. Since that is a mod that there is no return from, I've tried to see if anyone wants to sell the wheel carrier/camera tube setup, so that if I hacksaw it off and don't like the result, I have a path back to stock.

If you have that part and want to sell it, let me know via PM. Thanks.

This is the piece I'm looking for - I don't need the camera, or the camera shroud, the lug posts, or the third brake light setup.

Thanks
