Expedition Shelf for JLU - link below.

Expedition Gear Shelf

Jeep-Wrangler-JLU-expedition-shelf.jpg
Just received and installed this rack. Exactly what I was looking for and very pleased.

it sat in Belgium for a week but arrived in a reasonable timeframe.

Plan is FAK, blanket, jacket, and bag with jumper cables, shackles, & gloves on top all secured to rack. Adding Quik Fist weapon mount underneath rack for lever action rifle for hunting and camping trips.

I had the Hooke Road shelf and recently sold that and installed this:
https://www.amazon.com/JOYTUTUS-Com...stable/dp/B0CX1X9LWT/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis?th=1

This gets mounted on the roll bar (you remove the Jeep plastic covers). The height is adjustable by removing two rounded knobs, and you may need to at least loosen 2 other knobs to allow it to swing up/down. The shelf is in 2 pieces and is put together with a metal bracket and screws. It seems to be decent quality, all metal, and the rounded knobs are beefy.
At first it did rattle. I had to tighten the knobs a lot more, which makes removing them to adjust the height difficult. When at the upper height, it blocks part of the view from the rear view mirror. The Hooke Road did not block any rear view unless you had it loaded up with cargo.

How much was it after tariffs? I want to get one but I'm not sure how much it'll actually cost.

I always thought that the lid of the Tuffy security deck could easily be utilized as additional storage space, within limits of course. I secured a rubber mat to the lid with 4 bolts and swiveling tie down rings, which cost me nothing because I had all the hardware in my garage and found the rubber mat in a trash pile. Even if you bought all of the parts, I don't think it would exceed $20 and would be well worth the cost.

Clearly, I'm not going to store a fridge, air compressor, 50-lb tool bag, and Hi-Lift jack on it, but I wouldn't do that anyway, as it would induce a higher center of gravity. However, it is a perfect spot for all the light stuff that I'd otherwise throw on top of the heavy items, and it keeps them organized and within easy reach. When I loaded up for a short off-road trip, I used the space to stow two camp chairs, a folding camp table, compressor hose, extra jackets, radio gear, sleeping bags, recovery strap, and snacks. Once in place, I secured everything with a net to prevent them from becoming missiles in the event of a collision. I was pretty surprised at how well it helped me organize my load, and it nearly doubled my storage capacity (in surface area, not weight). With the limited space we have in our 2-doors, this made a huge difference, and was cheap/easy to do. The other nice thing, is that it doesn't prevent me from covering the security deck with a tonneau when I'm not using it for extra storage.

I suppose I could easily increase weight capacity by reinforcing the enclosure beneath the lid, but there's no reason to do so, as I keep heavier items on the floor. Just wanted to share this so other 2-door Jeepers can consider another storage option. Enjoy and happy Jeepin'!

That turned out really well. Over time my rubber mat started to curl on the edges. I added 1/4” thick aluminum bar stock bolted to the top. I lash my chairs and a small aluminum table to the front of the Tuffy box since I have no rear seats. On one occasion I was in a situation where I couldn’t open my tailgate to get my recovery gear out so I lash it to the top of the box when off road and under the box otherwise.

Final mockup of my loadout for extended trips. Soft/light items would take up the rest of the cargo shelf above the Packouts.

Did you fabricate the top shelf?

Yes I did. Started with a Harbor Freight hitch cargo basket, narrowed it down to fit between the C-pillars, and then made a couple brackets to hang it from the C-Pillars.

Great minds, right? Other than us, I haven't seen anyone else use these Tuffy security decks for additional storage, although it's a pretty cheap/easy mod. Really like your setup too. Having a steel enclosure also makes it an easy place to mount magnetic lights. I have one under the top deck, so I can more easily see inside the enclosure at night. Only thing I might add to mine, is a temporary (magnetic?) rack on the front wall of the enclosure so I can easily/securely stow a truck gun. Please keep us posted with any further additions to your setup and happy Jeepin'!

Just so you're aware about weight limits I emailed Tuffy a couple of years ago and asked if it would hold my spare tire and they said "No Problem". Take that with a grain of salt but I had one and had my Power Tank mounted to the middle of it and it didn't bow down at all. It's a great place to mount things!

Strong work guys!

I'm actually changing up my rear to have a rear slide with packouts like you. I love packouts - perfect for storage and modularity for different types of offroad/overlanding goals.
