Hello all-

I am running into a new issue.

I wanted to renew my account with ATT and reup the hotspot on my Jeep. When I went to do that, I got am error message telling me that my Jeep is ineligible for hotspot account. I called ATT and spoke with the in-vehicle internet connection customer service and they looked into it and tell me that thje SIM card that is currently installed in the Jeep needs to be updated and that the dealer can do that. I called several Jeep dealership and told them what I know and it was like I am talking alien to them... no one had any clue as what it all means.

It kinda makes sense that there is a SIM card somewhere in the unit since the hotspot connection uses a cell service and has a cell number assigned to it. so logically it makes sense that if ATT now uses 5G perhaps I need to update the SIM...

Anyone know anything about this? Are there magic words or keywords I need to use at the dealership so that things click and they understand what I need done? Anyone has done this before?

Any insight will be appreciated!

also, will add. The hotspot option for the Jeeps is only LTE, not 5G and thus kinda slow by todays standards.

The UConnect 8.4 radios don't use a SIM card. They use a carrier-branded aircard specific to AT&T and I'm unaware of an aftermarket or carrier alternative.

Wonder if it would be possible to just use a 3rd-party AT&T MVNO like Red Pocket (their GSMA option). Think they sometimes allow locked phones/devices since it's on the same network.

Might be worth a try to see if they'll allow it and if not, maybe it's possible to buy an unlocked AirCard and replace the factory one with that (ie, foreign/grey-market version of same/similar card with same band support). Though using a different brand/model might run into problems if it's not on AT&T's device whitelist, even if using an MVNO.

Dunno. Just some ideas.
