Safari mode in a storm...

Left my jeep out in 'safari mode' like i do so i can put the top down quickly all weekend and we had a 2 hour monsoon in LI, jeep got soaked and had to pull the carpet all the way in the front to pull the drainplugs (2 inches of water in the footwells)

so here is the question for the top down leave em out, crowd... Do i leave the carpet out and just put in all weather matt's until winter (when the hardtop goes in? ) the all-weather matts seem as like the would provide full coverage, I don't want to mess them up by leaving them it to retain moisture?

I have a Weathertech cargo mat that would catch all but the craziest rain.

Did you roll up the windows? I have been thinking that safari mode with the windows up would keep the front from getting wet at all but I guess not.

Ah! Funny you just posted this - pretty much same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Jeep was in "safari mode" and got absolutely swamped - had to pull all the plugs and I removed all the carpet. BUT I also had the windows open, and I feel that if they were closed, pretty much just the back tub would have been the only issue.

I'm keeping the carpet out until the winter for sure.

its seemed to drain forward, the cargo area was only damp and it pooled mostly in the driver and front passenger footwells. Debating to leave the carpet out as the winter/all-weather mats see to cover everything in the meantime its supposed to be sunny out tommorow so it will be airing out....

Oh -mine was total opposite. My driver/passenger seats were actually mostly ok; not too much water up there. My rear seats and my cargo area were insane, though. My cargo tub was basically to the brim with water lol

Just leave the carpet out and plugs open. I have my carpet in and made some drain holes over the open drain plugs. So far it's only been through few small showers, nothing of biblical proportions yet! I do roll up the windows just in case rain might blow in and mess with radio, etc.

Since you're in NY, as I am, heed my advice: Replace your drain plugs in the winter! I left them out during the first winter and it was COLD during those especially frigid, windy days. I had the all weather floor mats and figured they'd be fine for keeping stuff out, which they did for the most part, but they didn't stop the air from rushing in! I made a point to replace them before winter the next year and it was a noticeable difference!

i put it all back together now, i think i want to cut the carpet in all the drainplug locations

Pull the drain plugs for summer and re install before winter. Roll up your windows and that will take care of most of the rain. If you can remove the carpet do it for the summer as well and just use rubber mats. I left the drivers foot well carpeting in because the mat still slid around. My carpets been out for 4 years now. If your carpets do get soaked, its easier to pull it out and let it sit in the sun all day to dry and eliminate odor. good luck.
