For sure the AAL stuff is a bit pricy, for us we had already filled up the cargo area and it was worth it to have the extra room outside. There’s better solutions if you have the room (see trail Rax below ?) As for weight, it definitely depends on your carrier, I would be concerned running it on my sport with no extra reinforcement. However, allow me to be your canary in the coal mine ? I’ve got heavy beadlocks and 37” MTs with the system and the same XR tailgate reinforcement without issue.

? similar path here, backpacking > ADV motorcycles > 2 door jeep > 4 door jeep. If you’re like me you’ll quickly fill up your 4 door and wonder how you ever made it work in a 2 door

Trail Rax Pack Rax, I’ve had them for a little over two years and they are a vital part of our packout. We usually have rotopax on the driver side, up to 4 of the two gallons on one side, and then we run either a waterport for our shower or a diesel heater in the winter if it’s too cold for a shower. If you do pick up a set grab some 3M paint protection tape to save your top from damage at the touch points ?

Excellent point!
You have a very clean and efficient looking setup with all those red boxes -- nice!
I am trying to fight the urge to overbuild/overpack but yeah, probably inevitable that I think I will "need" more storage space :)

Gotta love the AAL MASS stuff! I just put in the cargo shelf. I love the extra room. What size Dometic are you running?

The fridge is the CFX3 45 liter
That's weird. I could NOT get the 45L to fit in my '23 JLUR with the "Slightly Wider Slider" from AAL. I had to go down to the 35L. So far it has not been an issue, but it wouldda been nice to have the extra room. I started out with the ICECO VL45Pro, and that was just too square to fit. The radiused top and bottom of the Dometics helped me gain the space I needed.

Yes, Harbor Freight cargo carrier, modified. Thank you!
There's much more information you need to provide here.
At the very least a few pics from other angles so we can see what you did and how you mounted it.

Hmm… it barely fits, but, it fits. Mine is set with the AAL shelf at its highest position, and the rear seat touches the fridge when it’s closed but just barely.

Ok, I’ll try not to be too long winded with this, but first I got rid of the top half of the stock 3rd brake light, next I used steel 3/4”,1/8”wall square tubing, which fits perfectly into the slotted part of the lower half of the tire carrier, then a couple pieces of 1” square tubing to slide over that to attach to the cargo carrier so you can adjust for whatever size spare tire you run, I used 1”x2” steel tubing to replace the 2” hitch receiver tube that comes with the carrier from Harbor Freight so I can have a more low profile fit across the top of the spare. I then reused the stock 3rd brake light.

Good point on the identifying what I want to store there. Right now I don't really "need" any additional storage but if I start extending my trips it makes me think about the "what-ifs". Obviously if I decide I need more fuel it will have to be stored outside and if I venture out of Colorado and more SW, my needs for water will be greater.
Thanks for the response
When I lived in Utah I really wish I had Rotopax gas because I almost ran out numerous times. Mostly my fault, but it's possible out there.

You would think Trail tax would provide something so their product doesn't scratch the hardtop.

Was your VL45 fitment an issue with the AAL slightly wider slider or with the shelf? I have both the VL45 and slighly wider slider headed my way on different shipping trucks now...

No shelf though. Just clarifying..thanks for your help!

The fridge. The VL45 is squared off at the edges, while the Dometic is rounded. Just that slight radius at the ends allows it to fit.

Are you saying the Iceco VL45 did or did not fit on the AAL slightly wider slider?
