"The Jeep brand has gone up market in recent years with several pricey new vehicles. Its market share has gone in the other direction.
The rugged American brand that spawned the modern SUV has posted lower sales for eight straight quarters. Since mid-2018, Jeep has surrendered significant market share, falling from sixth to ninth in sales among top U.S. brands."

Not real news to anyone who's been reading the forum, but the numbers on Wranglers are pretty bad, especially when coupled with Bronco's growth (which is yet to be determined if it can be sustained)

Jeep thought they could turn the Wrangler into a G-class cash cow. Now they are encountering the limits of insane price increases over the years.

$495 for any paint but white? Just one simple example of Jeep’s arrogance.

I hope Jeep’s freefall continues until they come to their senses. Jeep is not a luxury brand. It is a middle-America brand and always will be.

Let’s hope. Their prices are insane and I hope it bites them in the ass. All of the manufactures. I guess we can only blame the idiots that keep on financing these things at 1200 a month. ?

You're striking at the root with that comment, D. ?

Lengthy loan terms and a variety of lease programs are putting a lot of people into vehicles that they can't otherwise afford. This has the [desirable, in the view of the manufacturers] collateral effect of numbing consumers as to the real acquisition cost of the vehicle. Only when, or if, that tap is well and truly dialed back will we see downward pressure on automotive pricing trends. The OEMs will arguably have little choice at that point.

Hey now, I feel personally attacked ? but at least my loan is only 48 months.

I think the jeep sales slump is a result of the huge covid sales bubble they (and other recreational toy manufacturers) experienced that has waned because now either everyone who wanted one already has one, or because things have mostly gotten back to normal they've lost interest.

Same thing happened to Peloton for example - they had a massive boom in fitness equipment sales and subscriptions during COVID, and somehow never recognized that correlation and assumed the boom was permanent, but as soon as everyone who could afford their products already had them, and everyone else lost interest as their regular gyms opened back up, the bubble burst and Peloton was left scratching their heads and wondering why nobody is buying their $2500 exercise bikes anymore.

I'm not sure Peloton is the best comparison. Money was free then. Now you have normal interest rates and all of a sudden financing a $60k toy stings a lot more. Anyone buying a Wrangler should know they're buying a toy. Sure you can daily them no problem, but there are many much more functional and cheaper alternatives. We'll see how things change. Peloton dropped prices significantly. From reading the WSJ article it seems the execs attribute it to more the selection and not pricing. But who knows, maybe prices will drop as I'm waiting to order :)

Nothing wrong with them trying to capture some of the luxury market if they can, but if consumers don't actually view your brand as a luxury marquee, then your shit is just overpriced.

Other than their offerings being massively overpriced compared to most other mainstream brands, they constantly nickel-and-dime us for every little option, many of which that should be standard equipment now. Jeep has a very bad habit of both offering a million options, while locking many of them behind higher trims, leading consumers to spend far more than they need to actually get what they want.

I think my Wrangler's pretty cool, but I'll always feel like a bit of a dolt for having spent so damn much on a Chrysler, which will never have the same reputation and cachet as owning an Audi, BWM, Mercedes or Porsche, no matter how much they try to charge.
