Uconnect CarPlay wrong location

I have read that this weirdness has happened to several others and thought it deserved its own thread. I just sent this message to Julie with Jeep Cares. I know that I can reset my UC and drive in left hand circles but that is not a long term fix to this problem.

We have a new problem with our brand new Uconnect that was just installed.

We drove from Jax to Miami two weekends ago. On the way out of Miami, I used apple maps with CarPlay (IOS 11.2.5, iPhone 7) to navigate my way out of the S Florida madness. Somewhere in Palm Beach County, I disconnected my phone from the cable/CarPlay and drove the rest of the way home.

So this week I need navigation again and I started a route across Jacksonville on my phone. I plugged the phone into the iPhone cable/CarPlay and the screen on the UC was showing S Florida (300 miles from where I was at). I unplugged the phone and it reverted back to my current Jacksonville location on my phone. My wife started her Apple maps and plugged her phone into the CarPlay and it reverted the UC screen back to S Florida.

We videotaped what was happening because we couldn’t believe how crazy it was.

Please let me know what to do to fix it. I haven’t taken it to the dealer yet because I don’t want to be without our new JL for another 3 weeks while they trouble shoot it.

I had this problem in my 2008 Sahara and eventually fixed it myself. It turned out I had a wire going over the GPS box/sensor which was causing interference. Not necessarily the same problem, but it may be worth looking into.

Thanks. They just installed the new Uconnect a couple of weeks ago because of the glitching issue. It has worked fine until yesterday.

I just tried the driving in circles and UC reset. The driving in circles made the compass exacted opposite to what it is supposed to be. (See picture of the Atlantic Ocean and what my compass shows)

I could not get the reset to work.

I’m pretty sure FCA got these UC boxes at ToysRUs on close out.

Having same issue, notified Jeep cares, dealer has no resolution. My compass is up to 180* off when this is happening. I plug in my phone and my location is not only off but it continues to show me moving in the wrong direction as per the direction that the gps compass shows.

I also have this issue. Once i unplug and plug back in a few times it picks up my correct location without any issues. Hopefully they come up with a fix soon because its very annoying.

If you haven’t already please PM your info to the jeep cares ladies that monitor this forum. They are trying to determine how many people the issue is affecting. I tried the manual reset and it did not fix it. The dealer was able to get it working properly. It has not done it since yesterday.

Did you message them through the forum or jeep website. And if through the forum when did you send it to jeep cares?

I have been using the forum jeep Cares staff for each of the issues I have had and they have been very responsive. They have coordinated with my dealer and corporate to get things done.

I have had a running contact with them since they first started monitoring our forum. This particular issue came up on Tuesday and I sent them a PM message then. I got an response the next morning. I know they stay really busy with the questions from people ordering their Jeeps and trying to figure out when and what is available.

I'm having a very similar problem, the compass is always showing the exact opposite direction, and when ever my wife or I plug in our Samsung phones, the Android Auto thinks we are in Toledo, Ohio (we are in LA). Also, when we tell the clock to set automatically it jumps to east coast time (the time zone of Toledo, Ohio).

It will also override our phone's maps too. For example, after unplugging the phone from the car the maps on the phone say we are in Toledo for about 20 seconds until it re-acquires its own signal and correctly updates the location.

We have tried driving in tight circles but it doesn't seem to help.

I was hoping by coming here that there was some sort of way we could re-calibrate the gps on our own so I don't need to make a service appointment.

I don't have my Jeep yet as many others here on this forum to be able to look for this option. My JK has a setting for the region you are located that will affect the compass.

Can you all look through your options / settings and verify that your region is set correctly? If this is not right I can see the issue that is being reported happening.

I’ll PM and update this when I do, currently about to walk in for dinner. Same thing here.

Used uconnect with iPhone to Jacksonville, FL. Now every time I plug my phone in my gps thinks it’s in Jacksonville. Same with my gps on uconnect thinking I’m driving different directions.

Two months ago is when this happened to me and the dealer did a hard reset. It fixed the problem and has worked perfectly since then.
