Good way to make sure you always have a full tank of gas when you get home.

Almost 30 yrs ago a buddy and I put a lift on a truck in his parents garage. Had to let all the air out of tires and only cleared by 1/2 inch we still laugh about it. So good for you for measuring!
Haha! That is the 4x4 equivalent of painting yourself into a corner!

I didn't see anyone mention fenders? if your gonna try to be at the lowest height possible for the biggest tires possible and you have a willys then its a given imo that you should swap your stock fenders for Rubicon fenders because they'll give you almost 2" clearance (only for the tires doesn't increase vehicle height at all) So thats one of the first things you should do and then you can evaluate how much tires you can stuff with a minimal amount of vehicle lift afterward.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
I think it really comes down to what you want to do w/ your Jeep. Do you want the biggest tires/lift just to go down the road looking badass, or do you want to be able to take it off road, have it perform reasonably well, and still look pretty badass? Or do you have further drive train mods planned to go with the added tire/lift size?

For just badassery you could run 37s w/ a 3.5" lift (but your gearing will turn your Jeep into a dog, and small axles & 2.7 T-case won't be up for many trails), for decent trail running a 315/70/17 and a 2" lift w/ your current drive train. If you have future plans like Rubicon axles/transfer case, etc, then 37s will be ok for trails & badassery.

That’s such a good tip, thank you!!!

First make sure you adjusted your garage door to the maximum opening, and see if any trim around the door can be easily tweaked to give more room, measure again with an empty fuel tank and totally empty Jeep. That is what you have to work with.

Second decide what tire size you want to run e.g. 35" KO2s are like 34s and 37" KO2s are like 36s (@30PSI). Nittos/Toyos 35s and 37s are, well 35s and 37s. Halve the increase from your current tire is what you will go up on tires alone.

Then decide how heavy your vehicle will be (bumpers, winch, minimum off-road gear and tools you keep on, etc).

Most 2" lifts will raise most heavy Jeeps by 2.5" and lighter Jeeps by 3.0".

If you are in doubt, go for a 2" lift and spend $50 for 0.75" spacer pucks. You can use the pucks on front or rear to level or all the way around to raise the whole vehicle another .75".

Use the pucks to fine tune in case you want a little more lift and still have the clearance.

In my case, (I have a very heavy - 5,400 lbs 4 door). I did 37" KO2s, Mopar 2" lift with .75" pucks all around and went up exactly 5".

On the previous Jeep (JKUR heavy) I did AEV2.5" and .75" pucks only in the front and 35" tires to go up 4.25" level.

Good luck.

P.S. If you are going to do work on your Jeep in your garage, make sure you can raise it enough to do work on it, without hitting anything. You need bare minimum a foot.
I just adjusted my garage door and gained almost two inches! Thanks so much for the tip! 40” tires for the win! ?

You can also check the garage door trim as @gato mentions. If yours has a thick trim peice acting as the "door stop" (the trim that hides the gap between the frame and the door) around it, you can swap to a thinner new style vinyl/weather-strip "door stop".

Great!

If only it was as easy to gain 2" in other areas. :)

Now, you need to go measure every public parking space you need to use on a regular basis.

I have a 2 Door WILLYS. I'm going to do a Mopar 2.5 lift. I expect about 2.5 to 3 in lift. when my tires are shot I'm going to get thornbird tsl 33's. About an inch over stock. A good look and falls into what you want.

I installed 2.5" rock krawler with fox 2.5 DSC and 35" STT pro. The overall height of the top of my jeep increased exactly 5".
If I recall my last measurement, it was sitting at 76".

I have a 1” piece of weather stripping across the top. After that it’s the top of the garage. I guess that’s the emergency space I can gain if needed!

Unless you’re planning to regear I’d stick with 35s and a 2.5 inch lift or so. If you’re wanting 37s it will be more involved and more expensive.
