I went to Rowhler Flats OHV. Never been off-roading EVER. My cousin drove part ways up and I took over. Didn't realize how capable the Jeep was until we went over these steep hills. Nearly shit my pants 10 times but it felt like a breeze after I got comfortable and my fears went away. Here are some photos. Saw a truck at a point that was stuck, nobody was in it. I've also noticed sometimes when i turn the vehicle on to drive it you can hear a fan ramp up really loud in the front. I'm assuming this is normal. Started happening from time to time up this trail as well. Video attached of that. You can't really tell how steep the hills are but let me tell you, STEEP. My fear for steep hills is somewhat gone now. Time to plan another trail for next week!

I was just researching this last night. Good to see you had a great time. Another area (much easier for a beginner like me) is Burns Canyon.

Glad you had fun. I have been to Rowher several times in my JK when I lived in Thousand Oaks. Some trails were steep and narrow and I also feared meeting an oncoming vehicle. Yes, the Wrangler (Rubicon) is amazing. :)

>>>>>I've also noticed sometimes when i turn the vehicle on to drive it you can hear a fan ramp up really loud in the front.

In the JL, the fan used by the air conditioner is noisy. It is mostly noticeable when the vehicle is stationary with the motor running and the drivers window is open.

From the time I was a boy I was taught how to shut down a car:
Turn off the lights
Turn off the radio
Turn off the air blower
Turn off anything else that is on.
Finally, turn off the motor.

That way when you start a car, there is no extra stuff pushed onto the starting system.

The fan you hear is probably because you left the air conditioner on when you switched off.

Must do Berdoo Canyon also.
East of 29 Palms is a Jeepers paradise. Box Canyon for the lower desert.

The starting system bypasses most of that stuff automatically these days. Add in the fact that the headlights have an auto setting and the fact that I use the remote start often and I intentionally skip all of those steps. I want the heat to be on in the cold months or the ac to be on in the hot ones from the time I start the Jeep.

Awesome! I’ve gone to Rowher flats a few times it’s a nice place to have some fun! You went up the main trail past the left side parking area?

Fan is totally normal.

If the fan was blowing while you were climbing hills I am thinking the transmission cooler was running. I learned about it out in Colorado when running trails in 4 low to climb steep grades. Fan would scale up and blow for a while and then idle down.

Interesting, I'll pay attention to what I have on when It happens again.

I have this in Gaia GPS saved as a spot. Will do it eventually

You’ve barely scratched the surface my man! Venture a little further into the desert or up to Big Bear once you get the itch!
This was yesterday near Johnson Valley in my Stock JLUR XR!
I'll definitely look into it! and I'm going to watch that video shortly!

The fan runs when you have the a/c on but mine comes on when on the trail when the engine temp gets to about 215ish. Runs for a few minutes and knocks the temp down to 190ish. Next time, look at you engine temp - it’s just cooling itself since there is no airflow going 5 mph.

yes- it’s extremely annoying and loud.

Don't worry about the pictures-we Jeepers know that those photo's never actually look like the grades of the hills you go up and down. Yes you could possibly shyt your pants on some of them keep baby wipes and extra pair of pants just in case. Yes that Rubicon is really capable-you'll get use to it. Keep enjoying it on the trails it's a whole lot of fun.

Two things:
(1) Welcome to your new addiction!
(2) Yes, the fan is obnoxious, isn't it? haha! The last jeep jamboree we went on the trails were super windy and deep in the woods, so very easy to lose sight of the Jeep behind you. The couple in front of us said all they had to do was listen for the jet engine approaching, and they knew that we were nearby
