When ordering a Jeep, or any car for that matter, do you negotiate the price before placing the order or wait until the car arrives and then negotiate?

Before, otherwise they will hold it over your head that they can sell the car to anyone at a higher price.

Definitely before. And honestly, there really shouldn't be any "negotiating". Research the car/model you want to order and determine how much you want to pay for it. Then contact various dealers with what you want & find the one who will give it to you.

Before, but I’m pretty sure there is nothing keeping them from honoring any pricing until the vehicle is delivered and deal is done. Some dealers have marked up Broncos tens of thousands after customer orders have been delivered. My dealer said he’s heard of dealers doing this with Wranglers too.

Search around the forums for dealers that are doing below invoice pricing. You can usually send an email with your build to one of said dealers and they will give you a quote via email. I had the price worked out before I ordered and the dealer stayed true to the agreed upon price despite the price increases that took place between order and delivery.

Before, BUT ask the following:
1) How will incentives be handled? Some honor incentives at time of order, but usually it’s time of delivery. If they won’t do time of order it may be because they’re already at their limit on price and can’t risk eating a lost dealer rebate.
2) How will price increases from the manufacturer be handled? Similar to above, on a good deal they may not be able to eat the increased cost if Jeep bumps prices before delivery. In either FOB scenario, the vehicle is not valued on order. It is either upon origin or upon destination to the dealer.

OP, what part of the country are you in? There are a few dealers who do business on this forum. They well are known to reliable and fair dealers. Buying from them is painless and as easy as it can be.

I did before and after.

Before: Researched dealers and found one that was offering a good discount below MSRP. Got them to give me an initial price on trade-in.

After the order arrived: Negotiated up on the initial trade-in offer, got an additional discount, and some freebie upgrades.

There is a dealer in MO. Contact Jim Butler JEEP. They are a excellent dealer who does business with forum members. Their prices are among the best in the nation and they have a very low DOC fee. I think around $190?

You can read about dealers on this thread. Jim Butler is in the thread. Read through the thread and contact Jim Butler. Make sure you tell them you are a forum member.

Also check if your employer is a FCA Affiliate member. You can save an additional 1% of invoice by using a Affiliate control number. You can also joint Tread Lightly to get the Affiliate benefit if you employer is not a Affiliate.

Before! 100%. If you are looking for a dealer, I ordered mine through Georgia Mall and shipped it to Cali. Saved a ton!

Wow, can't believe the question and yet I can understand it being asked.
When that Jeep is ordered you should have a contract signed by both sides detailing every single item with no "grey areas" all the way down the list and an actual price on the bottom and you don't even consider walking out of the dealership without your copy. When you pick it up compare the paperwork to make certain nothing has changed, say no to every item the head salesman offers you (the finance guy) and make certain you have an excellent interest rate and you'll do fine.
Or:
If you're a sucker than just let them do it whenever and don't bother reading it before signing and the salesman will even bring you a Coke and you can come back and post how wonderful the dealership was to you.
Currently, about 5% below dealer invoice is the best anyone seems to be getting which is also EP so shoot for that and... No ! - you don't have to get any dealer installed ripoff items regardless of how many people surround the table at the dealership and tell you they are mandatory !
Sorry, but it was an odd question... and also bring someone with who hates dealerships and can do simple math and isn't excited about you getting a new Jeep and will grab you by your hair and drag you out the dealership door if they feel the need.
Make them think you may buy everything from them... but buy only the car !
