We love our Sahara. Off the lot, it's geared 3.45 with the Dana 44 limited slip upgrade. We have some nice 18x7.5 255/70 Goodyear Wrangler ATs on them, with the cute 7 spoke upgraded wheels.

We're not a fan of the wheels.

We'd like to drop in the MOPAR 2" lift kit and drop in some 35's or 37's (to be perfectly honest here, the "37s" we're considering are the BFG KO2s, which are barely bigger than 35s). Maybe on some XD wheels (or similar alloys)

We're curious if anybody has pushed this combination on their Sahara without needing to re-gear or do anything else that's drastic (read that: expensive).

(Please, don't lecture us about "You should have got a Rubicon", we won't be getting a Rube until the diesels drop in next year)

You don't NEED to re-gear but it will not drive exactly the same. You can do it and then if you feel it is sluggish re-gear it to bring back the original performance.

I was interested I getting 20” Wheels with 35” tires.

Will I need the upgraded support for the spare tire on the rear cargo door if I get the 35’s?
Will the 35’s rub at full turn of the tires?

I would say stick with 35’s if you plan on wheeling it or get some high line fenders and 37s. I think power wise you’ll probably be fine. I can’t really tell that much of a difference in mine. It’s not like a JK. This 8 speed changed the game. As far as KO2s, they are still 37’s. Meaning they are still 2”taller than most 35’s. The majority of tire manufacturers are all about the same tire sizes with an exception of a few. Don’t get too stuck on which tire is 1/4 or 1/2 shorter or taller. Base what you want on what the sidewall says. Not what they measure. That’s what ALL lift manufacturers use. What’s actually printed on the sidewall.

Rubicon’s really aren’t that important unless you actually use it. I wheel l lot. I mean a lot. I think I used the lockers in my JK Rubi, once. There are advantages to them and I bought another because I wanted one. I don’t think most will lecture you on not buying one. If they do they most likely don’t even know how to use the lockers. Lol

2" Mopar lift / 20" rims and 35" Toyo open country MT

If you decide to go 37's with the Sahara I would strongly recommend re-gearing

We ended up doing a simple 2.5" lift with 35 Falkens and Fuel Cleavers. No re-gearing needed. Feels a little sluggish, but nothing major. Handles great -- wheeling it next weekend :)

Thanks for all the feedback!

Here are the new shoes for my Rubicon. Going to get a 2” lift next. New to the forum.
