Good morning fellow Jeepers....

in approx. 2 months the Jeep is going in to corrosion repair warranty covered by Stellantis. My question is that when I bought her, she had the AVS bug deflector with the led lights installed and now since the hood is being replaced the shop offered me to remove it (if they can without damaging it) and leaving it up to me to install if I want or could. I know these things have 3m tape like everywhere for them to stick well to the hood .... seeing that the deflectors with the leds are $$ I was wondering if anyone out there ever did a re-install of these? and if so how?

@Ralph21Sahara

Much depends on how much you like the guard on your JL. IF you really like it then you'd want to keep the same look so to speak. I know with my bright white JL, the hood deflector really looks good and does prevent hood chips and yes, maybe a few less bug hits on the windshield.

I'm not sure if the body shop can get your's off without breaking it or marring it up.

I would not let them install it.. I'd wait a week or two and then install myself. Keep an eye on the paint job.. let the work mature then eval.. then, if you want the guard I would install the guard properly and only use genuine 3M Automotive double sided tape to do the install. Using a product with lesser quality / a knock off tape could have poor end results.

Also... 3M tape can be pricey... then you would want a non marred guard. You have to clean it up just right and then apply properly and strategically the 3M tape... and then do the easy install.

To me it would just make more sense and not that many $ more to just by a new and even better hood guard and install that.

Here is a guard that shines compared to most and it has no logo on it. I hate friggin gaudy logos on add ons..

This guard is a winner (Made in the USA) and the double side tape on it is great. My guard has been on for over say 7 years and looks as new after 112,000 mi. plus and the Florida sun..

If they won't re-install it, they have no reason to be nice when they remove it.

Take it off yourself if you want any chance of it not being damaged.

They are going to give you a new hood.. so just go with having to reinstall it yourself.

I heat gun and a plastic razor blade works on the tape.
