I went offroading last weekend and was doing my post-ride check. I noticed that there was a piece of wood jammed between the front differential cover and differential, kind of where the gasket is. I just sprayed fluid film yesterday so everything is still wet and greasy looking.

Can anybody take a guess on if I messed the gasket up? I'd rather not replace the gasket, but I could if I need to.

Being the goof I am, I went out there and carefully removed the jammed wood. Behind the wood was dirt/mud, so I don't think the wood went up in there and wedged it open. I also checked the fluid and it seems like it's right where it should be.

I'll keep an eye on it but I think it's OK.

Well "if a woodchuck could chuck wood" it would be as good a place as any. LOL

Still not leaking, I hope?

The gaskets aren't so soft, and they have steel inserts around the bolt holes. Further, the compression of the cover plate is pretty strong and that effectively stiffens them even more. There's also lots of room (I dunno, 5mm?) between the edge of the cover and the first bit of gasket material.

They're meant to be reusable. But when you change your fluid, you might want to replace that one i in case there are some splinters. If there's no leaking now, I'd be that you're fine.

Good luck!

I just checked the level over the weekend and it's still good. I don't see any evidence of leaking either.

I think I got lucky. But still something to keep in mind if you wheel. I'm going to look at getting diff sliders just to prevent anything bad from happening.
