Ratchet? As in a twist knob? My mom has a 2014 and it isn't a twist knob.
No, you ratchet it back and forth. To go from P to D you ratchet the shifter back twice. To back to P you ratchet it forward twice. There isn't a fixed position for D or R, etc.

WTF, when was that going on? The one I drive you pull back until it's in D. There's no multiple pulls on anything. It's like driving a floor mountd cable shifter. Wonder when all of that changed.

So what would happen if you were driving along at 45mph and opened the door? Would the jeep suddenly throw itself in to park and come to a stop?
I've done it at about 15 MPH. Opened the door to spit. Screeched to a halt! That's now one of those memories that will come back to haunt me all the way to my death bed.
