I‘ve never heard of a CarPlay device knowing your car and your radio is shut off. The CarPlay device only knows it is still getting power or not.
When the vehicle is off and hence the radio is off, the dedicated CarPlay connection is severed. It is as simple as that. Doesn't matter if the USB port is still powered and the CarLinkit device is still powered.

Take it or leave it. I'm not explaining this any further, as this is how it works in multiple vehicle (of various make) for me.

I appreciate the responses from both @jludave and @TopGunViper.

The issue of walking away from the car and still having the phone connected to the CarLinkit was what I was concerned about. I get it - it's only for 45-60 minutes as long as you're in range...but that could be a bit of a hassle especially because the car is relatively close in the garage.

Just trying to set my expectations as I've never used one of these wireless CarPlay adapters.

I don’t really think you understand what’s going on with your devices.
The CarPlay device is still on once you shut your Jeep off and will remain connected to your phone until the device shuts off or you‘re out of range of your device.

When I shut my Jeep off and walk into my house, I’m not that far away from my Jeep.
Before 45 minutes expire, I can try to play a YouTube video on my phone and I don’t hear any sound. Why would that be? I have my sound up and my phone isn’t muted. Oh, my phone is still connected to my CarPlay device in my Jeep which is still powered on. I turn CarPlay off for this device and my sound starts working on my phone.
But thats only because I’m close to my Jeep inside my house. If I were to go further away from my Jeep, it would disconnect from my CarPlay device and I wouldn’t have this issue or once the 45 minutes expire and the CarPlay device shuts off, I no longer have this issue.

The AAWireless unit AAWireless has an option in it's app settings that will automatically turn off the connection to your phone after the UConnect system is shut down/car is turned off.

Before I had the UConnect 5 system (which supports wireless) in my 20 Gladiator it would stay connected while I was in the house unless I turned this option on in the AAWireless app.

Mine stays connected too until I get far enough away from the Jeep. Using the console USB port.

The original unit does, the new unit (2) currently does not support it but the hardware is the same. It's still in Beta in the first unit but works with this and the last two gens of IPhone OS/Carplay. I have friends who use it, one in fact is using mine now that I don't need it. There's some issues with earlier IPhones because of the Bluetooth chips in them and how locked down Apple is with security making them more difficult to work with different restrictions.

They've said (The developers) that it's in their best interest to have Carplay of course but won't take it out of Beta until they can get a flawless experience.

Hey folks! I recently switched from Android to Apple because wife switched and it is a PITA to have separate OS in one house. I was running the Motorola dongle for AA with my OnePlus, and regardless of how the connection to AA was after shutting off car/walking away I just felt better having an inline switch to shut off the power to the dongle…but it was one more thing to remember while entering and leaving the car. With the IPhone, I went with another dongle specifically for CarPlay, and it cut out occasionally…probably because on my 2019 the data/charge usb A port is not that many watts. I decided to swap to another type of dongle, and no more drops…and after a lot of searching I also found a splitter cable from Amazon that takes power from the cigarette lighter socket (I am running a flush mount charger with both usb A and C) and then the other end goes to the data port (usb A in the dash) and then the other end of that is a female usb A socket (for dongle). Now, I get the wireless CarPlay I was seeking AND as soon as the car is shut off so to is power to the dongle. MUCH better….and now I don’t care how long after I shut the car off the usb ports are still powered. Other folks may have had different experiences, but before I was able to shut down the dongle for my AA my phone would search until the dongle shut off (my office is close to the parking lot) and with the CarPlay the dongle just got hot. The splitter took care of it.

Link to the splitter cable please?
